Brad Benson Hyundai False Advertising- The Old Bait & Switch Internet
Brad Benson Hyundai advertises continuously on the radio, I've heard them on WFAN 660, and NJ 101.5. They say that they will take off 30% off the posted dealer price on any new Hyundai in stock. I called three different times and spoke with different sales representatives who all confirmed that they will take 30% off the sticker price. When I pressed about any conditions or restrictions (since that's a great deal), they told me that the only restriction was that the deal applied only to cars on their lot and that they couldn't order me one with the 30% discount.
After reassuring me that they had over 700 cars on their lot, I made the trip to them (45 minutes each way). I was quickly helped by a sales associate who wrote on a piece of paper the 30% off, and we went through actual numbers. For instance, a $25,000 car would cost only $17,500. This sales associate showed me a car with a sticker price of about $24,000 and then was called away and was replaced by another sales associate. This person told me as well that I can take off 30% from the $24,000. After a test drive and more back and forth questioning, the first sales associate returned and told me, "you're not going to be happy." He then told me that the car would cost well over $20,000. When I asked how is that if you take 30% off the sticker price, he then explained to me that, "not everyone is eligible for the entire 30% off. He went on to say that the entire 30% off was for military families, recent college graduates, and Hyundai owners. I complained to him that not only did 4 other salesmen assure me that every car I was looking at would be 30% off, but this salesman himself wrote it down!
To make a long story short, he apologized and said that the salesmen are instructed to tell everyone that they will receive the 30% discount and even to lie as to whether there are any "strings attached." Only after a customer has shown significant interest in purchasing a car do they let them know that the 30% off virtually doesn't exist.
I know that many times discounts come with conditions, but advertising on the radio ad nausea about the 30% off, and without any disclaimer on the advertisement, or their website for that matter is wrong. Speaking at length with the various salesmen on the phone and then at the dealership, and being told that there were absolutely no conditions on the 30% is downright shameful, and I believe a crime.
