Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I recently received a phone call from this company Capitol acquisitions and Management Co. (Camco Inc.) I had in the past received correspondence from them stating that I owed 5126.00 and that they were attempting to collect it. This from an old account from 1991, which ended up charging off and showing as such on my report.

Well I threw it away thinking that they were some third party collection agency. (Which they are) They sent two more which I didn't even read and threw those out also.

Now a nasty woman who represents herself as Ann Stewart has been calling me on a daily basis. I asked her to resend info via snail mail and she informs me that, no she wouldn't and that I need to pay this dept immediately. I gave her an old email address and she sent me there terms of payment. It stated that they wanted me to pay this thru direct check and upon clearance said dept would be paid in full.

She kept trying to get me to state that I did indeed owe this money, I had suspicions that call was being taped by her as there was an echo that I could hear every time I said something to her. She seemed real eager to get me to say this, which I did not.

She wants me to settle this dept and has told me that a payment for 1,325.00 will settle above mentions dept I supposedly owe. Now she has made one mistake already, she has discussed the issue with my fiance on the phone, giving her the details and threatening that if I didn't pay up she was going to place this on my credit record again.

This I have found thru research is illegal. She mentioned that all my now current creditors would see this and cancel my entire credit line and even our gym memberships!? She called me two days later and threatened the same thing, only this time trying to play hard ball with me over the phone at which point I hung up on her and continue to hang up every time she calls.

I sent her, them a cease and desist letter via registered mail w/ signature conformation. I decided to put the address that came on the one email I received from this Ann Stewart in search engine and that is how I have found your site.

I post this here as to let anyone who has the misfortune of dealing with this organization that you need to get down and dirty with this company, know your rights, the laws concerning such unscrupulous practices and what ever you do. Don't give them a dime.

My question at this point is,

1. Will the cease and desist make them stop calling me?

2. Should I file a complaint with Illinois officials about them as I have seen that this company specializes in fraudulent dept collection practices?

3. Can they put this in my credit file? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Thank you for your website!

Michael

I called 312-814-3000 and spoke with someone there that is well aware of the problems with Camco. They have had tons of calls on this company. File a complaint with them. Also call your states' attorney generals office and file with them. My state rep. has taken a personal interest in this. The more complaints filed the faster we can get this company shut down. Good luck!
