misunderstood-my credit limit is 400-500 dollars. the amount of unused credit is at least 28.00 on my kmart visa. capital one visa i just paying on, with a overdue balance of a least 600.00. if and when i decide to pay them off, believe me they will no longer get my business. they keep saying they are going to report my account to the credit bureau, but yet still offering me a chance to pay them off. I DO NOT CARE ANY LONGER. i pay the minimum because that is all i can afford, i am a part-time worker as of this date. i put money on kmart card for gas purposes and emergency. THANK GOD ... i haven't had any emergencies, then i be over the balance.

If the card has the VISA logo on the front, you could use it at almost any store, not just K-mart. But why would you want to? If the balance is only $28, you should be in a position to pay it off and be rid of it. Take the balance, add whatever they charge every month, plus a few dollars extra and send in that payment. Then call them and cancel it right away before they can slap another monthly charge on it. Follow up your call with a letter (certified mail) where you include the card cut in half and a request to "close this account immediately and refund the credit balance" (the few dollars extra you sent in). Most cards are set up so just paying the minimum payment is never enough to make a difference in the balance. There's no law that requires the minimum payment to be enough to pay off the debt in a reasonable time, or ever. Always pay much more than the minimum; pay the full balance whenever possible.
