Hi Nancy,
I'm an official representative for CashNetUSA and I can assure you that this email did NOT come from anyone on our team. Our in-house collectors follow strict policies and procedures, industry best practices, and comply with the law. It seems as though fraudulent collectors have created a fake gmail account using our name to lend itself legitimacy and are contacting you to try to scam you out of your money.
Please do not be intimidated by their empty threats and do NOT respond or give them any information. You can help us to stop these scammers by taking the following actions:
- If you have taken out a CashNetUSA loan before, please contact the CashNetUSA Team with details of the incident at 888.801.9075
If you have never received a loan from/through CashNetUSA, please call 888.801.9075 to provide us with the details of the incident that we can share with authorities.
Contact your State Attorney Generals office and the Federal Trade Commission and file a complaint. Use the FTC link https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and reference fake payday collection fraud.
The Federal Trade Commission has published a list of debt collection questions and answers that is also a useful resource if you are unsure of the legitimacy of a debt collection request. You can find them here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm
I sincerely hope that this information helped you and I'm sorry for any stress this fake email may have caused you, Nancy. Please contact the numbers above and we will be speaking with you further about this.
Finally, please know that this information is not provided by a lawyer and is not intended to be legal advice.
