I purchased a dining room table from Carolina Direct, the previous tenant of the same space as Castle Furniture, during their at least six month long "Going out of business" sale. I was later told by a friend who lives in the area that that space has been occupied by the same tenant for years, only they open under different names, stay in business for a little while, then have a protracted "Going out of business sale," then start all over again. At the beginning of September, I ordered and paid for a dining room table that my salesman promised would be delivered by Thanksgiving, my main reason for purchasing the table. I should have paid attention to the red flags: if they're going out of business & have to clean out all their inventory, why do they have to order the furniture? They told me there was one central warehouse, but many stores. But if there's one out of state warehouse, how come there was a stocked warehouse in town as well? After calling numerous times to ensure my delivery date (I even had the salesman write it on the ticket), they called the day before Thanksgiving to tell me my table was in. I borrowed a truck and went to the warehouse to pick it up and the lady there said, "they did tell you they substituted your table, right?" Nope. They substituted a supposedly higher priced / better quality table... that was ugly. I refused it. They tried to get me to take it so I would have something to serve Thanksgiving dinner on, and I refused. I figured after all the other crap they'd done, once I took it home, it would be mine. The last-ditch effort was to give me a table that had come in, but had a huge scratch down it. I refused that too. I finally got my money back, but it took three months and I think it was only because I screamed so loud and they just wanted me off their back. I even went to the showroom and made a scene. I believe that Castle Furniture is run either by the same people as Carolina Direct, or by people with the very same business practices. I'm watching for the inevitable "Going out of business" sale.
