CBCS sent me a letter offering me a settlement of 50% on a debt that I had never heard of. It said the current balance is $656.29 and that they had been authorized to give me a settlement offer of $328.15. It says the original creditor is AT&T Broadband. I have never had an account with this company and have never been contacted by them. I called the number that is listed about ten times and each time it rang twice and then went to a busy signal.

I then googled the address that was on the letter and the phone number that was listed. The results shoed several complaints on ripoff report and other similar sites that were similar to my complaint. In the other complaints, though, the victims were able to contact the company by telephone or the company contacted them. In my case, the company contacted me via the US Mail and I was not able to reach the company by telephone.

An interesting note - When ever I open an account or engage in any business transaction, I use my full first name and middle initial (Michael J). The letter was addressed to simply Mike and my last name.

No need in calling these losers, the only thing to do is send them a letter

Ask them to validate the debt. Send it certifed and don't sign the letter with a handwritten signature. They have 30 days to validate it. What they are trying to do is to get you to pay 1/2 of this and then since nothing is in writing, they will probably deny this 1/2 half offer. That is the tame thsed losers play. They are nothing but bottomfeeding scum. Don't allow them to intimidate you in any way.
