In January 2008 I was looking for insurance for my husband, daughter and myself. I found some good ones but the prices were very high. The next day I was contacted by Joshua from Consumer Health Benefits Association (CHBA aka NBCHealth). He told me about this discount plan which he was able to make sound like a hidden gem and it only cost $139.95 a month. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. Boy was that a mistake!

My dr. didnt accept this plan nor had they ever heard of it, I saved next to nothing on perscriptions and was told that I would save almost $500 on oral surgery to find out after it was all said and done that it would only cover around $200.

In April 2009 I went to pick up a perscription to find out that my card was no longer working, the next day I called CHBA and spoke with Angelina. She told me that in january they changed providers and for some reason I didnt recieve my new cards, she then said they would mail me out new ones. While I was on the phone with her I asked about their gurantee which I believed to be "If you spend more then you save in the first 12 months you get the membership fee refunded and you recieve 12 months of coverage free" At least that's what I was told when Joshua called me. Ha! She explained it to be that I had to have seen different specialists durring the year and had not saved money with them and all these requirements that would never be able to be met. I then told her that I just wanted to cancel my membership, if I wasnt able to save money with them and wasnt able to get their gurantee then there was no reason to continue business with them. I was told that it would go through immediatly and I would not be charged again.

That was 4 months ago. All of our expenses go through my husbands account and the only time I see the statement is if there's a problem. A few days ago he told me that we had been charged again and after going over the last 4 months of statements we realized that they had never canceled our membership.

I called CHBA several times in the last couple days to hear the same things over and over, Finally I landed on Sharrons desk. And as other reps that I spoke with she said that she saw that I had spoken with Angelina on 4/14/2009 and that we discussed the gurantee and the problem with the cards but there was no note about wanting to cancel. And that I would not get a penny back from them.

I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I do not intend to let this go. I think that it is absoultly absurd that a company can treat its customers like this. What I want to know is how many other people have they done this too? Do they train their employees not to process a cancelation just so they can continue to charge then and not have to repay any of the stollen money? I'm not sure what my next step will be but I am sure that there will be more.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM AND DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER! THEY ARE THIEVING POCKET DWELLERS WHO WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GIVE YOU LITTLE TO NOTHING IN RETURN!

Rachel,

You have given your credit card to a family of crooks/Con Artists that are well known in the state of Illinois.

Rod Rieman, Roderick Rieman, Roderick J. Rieman, Roderick James Rieman is known on Ripoff-Report. Search his name for his history. Sharon is his wife, Angelina or "Angel" is his daughter.

These crooks are running this operation out of this address:

Roderick / Sharon Rieman
26 White Oak Circle
St. Charles, Il 60174

This is rental property. Rental properties make it easier for crooks to hid.

Read the other CHBA complaints on this site.

Read this report from the state of IL. on this fraud:

If the link doesn't show up or work, google: CHBA Illinois

Look for: "Consumers Bought into Health Plan They Thought Was Medical Insurance"
Nov 11, 2005 ... According to the complaint, National Benefits Consultants and Consumer Health Benefit Association (CHBA) have violated the Illinois Consumer ...

Show a copy of this to who ever you file a complaint with.

Contact your state Medical Insurance regulation dept. (google: New York state medical insurance regulation) and file a complaint. CHBA is not licensed to sell in your state.

Call your state Attorney General and file a complaint. OR, call your local FBI and talk to them. Rieman has a file with the FBI in Illinois.

You should talk to your credit card company and find out where the billing and payments go (they may not give you that info), or close your current account to stop further payments to CHBA.

Good luck. The internet is not a place to buy insurance without 1st checking with your state regulatory agency to see if it's legit.
