Chrysler Financial had the legal right to reposess the car. It was an overdue "secured" debt. Now that they have it they will sell it and ask you to pay them the difference between the sale and your balance. This is an unsecured debt which you can skip on unless they sue you and get a judgement. It is not good for your credit file but it may be your only option for now. My own personal experience with Chrysler Financial is that they are very agressive in their collections and employ MANY ignorant people. Don't blame Daimler Chrysler, Chrysler Financial is a very different entity.
