I purchased sony dvd301 video camera from CircuitCity Hollywood store and discovered that captured video is all green and zoom is terrible. None of the accessories except battery and charger were unpacked. When I came back to the store and told them that I don't like the camera and want to return it, they said even though everything was in original packaging they have to charge $125 15% restocking fee because label on the box was broken. I never had this problem with any other store.

This is ripp off. They can simply cell bad product and make money on it, when you open the box. You have to open the box to try any product and only then you can tell if you like it. I would never buy anything in circuit city again.

Where are you going to shop?

Where are you going to shop for camcorders now? Buy from bestbuy, they will have a brick in a seal pacakge, and when you will come back to return it they will laugh at you. Have happened to friends. Don't like the restocking fee? What if you would own the company, somebody would return the product, you won't be able to sell it and manufacturer would not refund full money to you? So if somebody return, you lose lets say that $125 and then they buy again, they use it, and return it, you get negative $125 again. So now you are in $300 dollar hole. Is it retailers fault that the product is defective? Retailers only resell manufacturer producs. We have 14 days if it is defective product and won't charge the restocking fee. Manufacturer has their own LIMITED waranty which will cover the defect. Go figure... People needs agains what business can offer, they will never be friends :))) I should freaking frame this sentence... Customer come in the store with all sort of wishes. Use and refund, use and refund and don't give a s**t and then they ask why this store is going out of business, because people like that and extremely nice managers. Not very warm post, but thats how it is.

I did get a full refund on this camera, but I'm not buying anything at Circuitcity again, unless they change their return policy back like it was before. Ana, I was very good customer, I was buying a lot from Circuitcity before, from the same store, I still have 5 or 6 reciepts from Circuitcity that had good old customer friendly return policy. Circuitcity was taking back products before even if they are open, as long as they were returned in good condition. I even remember tv commercials, "bring it back withing 30 days, no questions asked". Circuitcity and Bestbuy, you guys simply lost more business to Fry's Electronics. People who got burned, will be afraid to buy from your stores and will go to stores like Fry's. Not that Fry's is ideal, but this is major. Ana, I don't know about florida, but in LA most circuitcity stores suck, barely 4-5 customers at the store, little more during sale and weekends, you guys loosing it already, this return policy will kill your business.

Return Policy: If within 14 days the product is defective, it can be brought back

Circuit City clearly states that their return policy on computer and imaging products is 14 days. If within 14 days the product is defective, it can be brought back to any Circuit City store and they'll give you a new one or give you your money back, however, if you decide that you don't like the product and you just want to return it or exchange it for a different one, there will be a 15% restocking fee. This is because once the manufacturer's seal is broken on a product, the store cannot sell the item as a new one anymore, and they have to sell it as an open box. You should've tried the camera at the store before purchasing it. That's the reason why the products are on display, so customers can play with them. I work in the imaging department of Circuit City and the return policy is posted in every register and it clearly states there's a 15% restocking fee. The only exception is if the item is purchased as an Open Box, and then there's no restocking fee. I am sorry that you had a bad experience. It is not Circuit City's fault that the camera was not working properly. We don't want to sell bad products, but we get all these cameras from the manufacturer, and as you noticed, they are sealed by them so we have no way of knowing how they will perform when you open them. If they don't work, then they are considered defective and we'll give you a new one within the 14 days of the return policy. However, if they do work and you just want to return it, the 15% will apply. The mistake that I sense was made is that yes, maybe the camera had a green tint in the video, but that is something easily fixed if you read the manual and make yourself familiar with the white balance of the camera. If it doesn't fix it, then bring it back and get a new one. The zoom is the same on all Sony camera except the Hi8s and Digital 8s. They have 10x optical zoom because Carl Zeiss doesn't make lenses that go higher than that. If you used the DIGITAL zoom, then yes, the video will be bad, but that's on ALL camcorders. Again, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. Maybe there you were not made aware of the return policy at the store, but it is printed on the receipt. I don't know if you still have the camera, but if you do, it carries a manufacturer's warranty of 12 months part, 3 months labor, so you can contact Sony and have them service it. If it's still under 30 days, you may want to consider the CityAdvantage protection plan for the camera. I know you'll probably read horrible things about service plans on this website, but as a Circuit City employee who works in imaging, I strongly recommend it and stand behind it, so it's just a little advice which you can either leave or take. If I can be of any assistance, let me know. I'll try to keep coming back to this website. I really like this company and I truly believe in it. We are very customer-service oriented and I'm sure a happy solution can be achieved in this situation.
