I recently started receiving calls from a 202 number & they would always hang up. If I answer the phone & don't say anything they also hang up. If I say hello, a man comes on the phone & asks for my teen daughter who claims he's with the US Federal Gov't to see if she qualifies for free money/grants for college. The numbers are either incomplete or have too many digits - and sometimes they just have Private Number Calling on the caller ID. They call many times a day. Upon a few conversations with these men, I told them I did not want to receive any more calls & they said it would cost $100 to remove my number from their call list. When I asked them what country they were calling from they said "Texas". Upon arguing with this fraudster he then made suggestive comments about my daughter, which just confirms he's a fraud. The government would never call you & offer you a grant! Don't fall for it.
Here are some of the numbers that came up on my caller id: 202-556-22056, 410-202-899903, 202-899-903, 202-665-33, 410-202-66533. I believe the calls started about 7/1. I'm not sure if my daughter signed up for a contest, etc. on website, but she never gives out her number only mine. Pathetic creeps!
