...are about this company. The complaints are all basically the same thing. Some slick person calls up with a pitch about a "great" offer for magazines. They off you some trinket that sounds like a fantastic prize, and hook you for a year, saying you can cancel if you don't like it. Then they call you up and try to sell you for more years, and if you are lucky, you actually get a few of these magazines you never really wanted in the first place, and for sure you get harassed to death to pay an outrageous fee for them, whether you get the magazines or not. This is a sad way to get taken. Folks if you want magazines, just subscribe directly to the company. You will save endless money and headaches by hanging up on swindlers who operate like this company. There is no reason to ever buy from a telemarketer, period. They will verbally promise you the moon, knowing that they don't have to deliver because you won't go after them, and even if you did, it's "he said/she said" in court, and we all know where that gets you. Finally, NEVER EVER give your credit card or bank account number to ANYONE on the phone like this. Best advice is just hang up on these pests, or if your state allows it, get on their no-call lists, and do sue them if they continue to pester you (you may have that right). As for your specific situation, I would say you shouldn't have paid them. You have the right to contact the bill collector stating they may not call you at work, and may not contact you again, except to file suit. Odds are very good they wouldn't do that. Why should you pay for what you never got? Know your rights, and use them. Don't let these people bowl you over.
