Because they're the original creditor, and you owe them money. Yes, you stated that you would pay the missed payment, but I'm guessing they hear that a lot. (Aren't they a subprime lender anyway?) So, looking at their point of view, why would they believe you if many of their customers say that and don't follow through? Did you agree on a hard date to pay? Because they are the original creditor, the FDCPA won't apply, and I have no idea if Michigan has any laws regarding debt collection. You could always contact an attorney in your area to find out.
