I hired Daryl Flood to handle my move from Houston TX to Vancouver BC Canada, because of a family friend's recommendation. The loading part was fine, the crew was very helpful. The delivery charge and the estimate was very similar and cheap ($29xx to deliver 1500 lbs of goods from Houston TX to Vancouver BC).

However, the delivery part was awful. Daryl Flood hired AIT to handle the transportation while AIT has no idea how Canada works.

First I received a phone call from AIT, they said they have a contract with Daryl Flood and the guy in the phone wants me to clear custom before the goods arrive in Vancouver. I asked him which office I should go to, and he said "any office would do". I went to the custom office close to my home, and the staff there told me my goods need to be in Canada physically in order to clear custom. I called  Damian Cajilema back and he did not know that rule. He said he'll call me back tomorrow once the good arrives in Canada. He did not call me back that day, and he did not call me back the following Monday (it was Memorial Day so I forgave him).

The following Tuesday I found him (he never called me back), he said the item is in Canada and I can go clear custom. After a few minutes he called me back and he said I need to call the warehouse first. I called and the warehouse said I need to clear custom over there at the border. I was very upset because according to Cajilema, I can clear custom wherever I want. Obviously Cajilema has no idea how Canadian custom works and I paid $80 to rent a car to go to the custom office.

Afterwards I hear nothing back from neither AIT nor Daryl Flood.

Last Friday (June 3) I received a call from AIT said they want to deliver my shipment. They asked me if I have anyone to help me to move the stuff because it's more than 2100 lbs. I was shocked. I do not understand why do I have to handle the delivery myself. I contacted Vanessa Turner (Daryl Flood) and she said "who told you that". I told her what happened and she said she will call me back, of course she never did. After a few days she said she has to charge me $980 in addition because I live in a high-rise which requires the crew member to WALK up above the 2nd floor. I said this is non-sense because according to AIT (the delivery company) they said they don't have any crew member to unload the shipment. They didn't even ask me do I have an elevator or which floor do I live at.

I emailed Vanessa and she replied "Again, if you do not think the rate of $980.00 is fair, please call around to other moving companies in the Vancouver area and ask them for a rate to pick-up your goods from AIT dock in Surrey, BC and deliver to your residence in Vancouver."

I was able to find a moving company (2Brothers) that charges me $55 per hour to unload my shipment. Since my apartment was a 1 bedroom and I do not have any furniture included in the shipment, I doubt that it would take more than 17 hours to move my stuff. $980 to move my shipment up with the help of an elevator? This is just a rip-off. I would be totally fine if AIT said "Sorry I can't deliver your stuff because you live in a high-rise". That was NOT the case. AIT cannot deliver my stuff because they DO NOT have a crew for delivery, and they are NOT a moving company. I was very upset and I told Vanessa that she's trying to rip me off. She said she is not, and she's willing to take $300 out of the $980, so I'll pay $680 instead to have my stuff delivered. I said NO because $680 is still not acceptable.

Daryl Flood assumes that I can move 1500lbs (or 2100lbs according to AIT) by myself, and they assume that everyone in Vancouver lives on the ground floor. I paid for a door-to-door delivery service, and I ended up paying extra money out of my pocket just to have my goods moved upstairs with the help of an elevator. This is totally unacceptable and non-sense.

They claimed that they need to charge me extra is because of this "exclusion"

Exclusions

The above rate does not include customs exams, duties, taxes, port storage or demurrage charges, detention, any physical inspection or x-ray of shipment at destination, storage, warehouse handling, overtime, shuttles, any access special fees at origin or destination, port charges, third party services, walkup above the second floor, difficult or unusual access, carrying and hoisting of bulky items, pickup or delivery to more than one address, handling of piano and safe etc.

They claim that using an elevator is "difficult or unusual access". I argued with them numerous times but they just won't listen to me.

Darryl Flood Movers Is A Ripoff and 100% Responsible

#3Consumer Comment

Movers that hire other movers or broker other movers are responsible for the entire move.

If this event truly happened you would have contracts that detailed your rights with this professional moving company and any subsequent contracted movers involved in your move. But since no details in that regard were given, these events sound suspicious.

In other words, if Darryl Flood and his moving company brokered other movers then absolutely he is 100% responsible for contracting out. It would be in the contract details. Given that, then Darryl Flood Movers is a RIPOFF for failing to broker professional movers.

The apology from someone named Jeff and refund, which doesnt calculate correctly and the advertising plug at the end for 2Brothers Moving makes this report sound like a puff piece for Darryl Flood and 2Brothers.  Darryl Flood Movers Is A Ripoff and 100% Responsible.

problem solved by refund

Jeff from Daryl Flood contacted me today and he apologized for the inconvenience. He also offered me $300 refund that I spent to hire another moving company to move my stuff.

I understand this is not 100% Daryl Flood's problem, this is AIT's fault too. Anyhow the problem is now solved, even though I did not like the way Vanessa handles my stuff but Jeff was very polite and I accept his apology.

PS I paid $320 to hire 2Brothers moving company to re-deliver my shipment from AIT's warehouse in Surrey to my home.
