I opened a Dell Financial Services credit account a few months ago.  I recently signed up for automatic payments.  Dell took my first payment out a day late, and is charging me a late fee for it.  I have called multiple times, and they have told me something different every tme:

1.) I was told I did not make a payment for the month of June, when I sent them a screen shot of my bank statement they gave me a phone number to call for an office which was closed.

2.)  I called the number several times the following day and received three responses:

a.) I was told that I had selected automatic payments to be taken on the due date and that caused the late fee because "all online transactions have a 2-3 day processing period."  I was instructed to move the payment date to three days prior to the due date (this by the way is not an option as you can set an automatic payment to post on the last day of the billing cycle or on the payment due date- those are the only options)

b.) I was told that I had to choose the "last day of the billing cycle option" or I would be assessed a late fee every month, because I was not allowing for their processing time (by selecting to have the payment taken out on the due date).

c.) I was given a fake or disconnected phone number to call just to get me off the phone.

I finally received an e-mail from Dell Financial Services (whom you cannot manually e-mail- they won't publish their e-mail and their responses come from "Mango").  They stated that they had been "trying to call me."  I have no missed calls or voicemails from anyone at Dell.  I gave them an updated phone number when this whole thing started, but they have several numbers, and have not tried to reach me ONCE.  That was just a lie.

They basically refuse to reverse the late fee or to acknowledge that they cannot charge a late fee on an automatic payment that they took out a day late.  Several times they informed me that I had taken the payment out- not them (I am not sure how that helps their case any, but that's what they said).  When I told one representative that I had enrolled in automatic payments he stated that I had to make the payment the first month because of some reason that I could not understand (because the accent was so thick).  I explained that I had not initiated the payment and sent him a screen shot of the bank record showing that they had iniated the payment (social media representative).

Dell financial services sees no problem with what they have done (and apparently plan on continuing to do month after month).  One person promised that the fee would be assessed and then reversed every month- I asked for follow-up information, and she refused to explain further.  This is the only person who has even hinted at the idea that somehow the late fee will be reversed, but even if it is- it could still potentially damage my credit, and since this story is so far removed from any of the other stories I was told- I find it hard to believe that they are going to the trouble of iniating late fees and then reversing them for customers every month.

We will see what the see next story is.
