My family got three gift cards from DeluxeCard (aka, www.deluxe-card.com, Deluxe Visa Gift Card) around December 2005 as Christmas presents, totalling $1300. The cards had all sorts of clauses like you had to pay ~$20 to purchase their service, they would take away the balance of your card if you did not spend the money loaded onto it in a certain time frame, and they had the worst customer service imaginable.

Me and my family members used these cards casually for a couple of months. But when we checked our online balances from time to time we would find charges on there that were either never made by us or by companies that we never heard of. We had a problem with all 3 cards. In total they added up to almost $200. We complained online but only got back messages from their customer service reps stating "we could not locate your account information please try again and provide more detail." So we called them frequently and would only be able to get a hold of their representatives once every 5 times we called. Most of the time they refused to give us our money back that were wrongfully taken from us, didn't inspire a lot of confidence that they were protecting our money well with their service. One charge was made of $50 to someone named "Varquar Ali." I complained heavily this time and they agreed to give me my money back initially, but then I tried to use my card at a restaurant and it kept declining (I was low on funds by that time, but assumed they put the money back). I called them and told them that they messed up and didn't put the money back on my account. But a rude customer service rep kept insisting that they did. I asked why my card declined then and she answered "we put it back [a few months ago]," I complained even more but it was no use cause they practically were either scamming me out of my money or they did not have liability coverage for their service and thought it best to let me eat the loss.

Bottom line is that they are a bunch of scammers that poorly mishandled my families money and I'm sure a lot of others. They cheated us out of almost $200 that was never returned to us. There are other, not to mention better, gift card companies like American Express Gift Cards. So if you were thinking of getting one for someone please take my advice and don't. If you already have one pull out all your money FAST.
