Deranleaus Stores General Policy: Packages demo models and sells them for the price of new while reassuring you that you are buying brand new- Sells older model Tv's (e.g. 2007) as new models (e.g.,2008). Moscow Idaho
I went to "Deranleaus" yesterday to buy a LCD TV. The sales rep approached me and gave information about Sony Bravo TVs which come in various models/sizes. I was told that the one with the price tag of ~$1399 is the 2007 model (40") while the one with the price tag of ~$1499 is the 2008 model (40").
I asked whether they have a brand new 2008 model because I am not interested in the demos. This is due to the fact that demo TVs sit in the store for quite sometime while they are left on usually 24/7. This reduces the lifetime of the TVs significantly.
The sales rep checks the inventory and reassures me that there is one brand new available. So, I pay for the brand new 2008 model ($1499). They said they will deliver in a few hours and install it for me. They mentioned it will save me time because installation could be time consuming, if I do it myself.
The delivery guys bring the TV fully packaged with foams, straps, and everything as if new. Once out of the box, I noticed that the TV is dusty and has finger prints on the screen. There was also a slight defect on the bottom rim of the TV. So, I asked: Is this new or the demo? I was told it is brand new and comes from the warehouse.
I called the store and when I pressed, they told me that it is actually the demo and they don't have any new. The manager said, since they didn't have a new one they decided to send me the demo!!!!!!!!! If I hadn't noticed, I had paid the price of a new TV but have got a defected demo!!! During my conversation with them, I also found out that Sony Bravo does not have a 2008 model!!! So, they sold a defected demo 2007 model as a brand new 2008 model!!!
This is not their first time. They sold me a washer/dryer last year which was a demo while I paid for a brand new. Even the delivery guys were suspicious whether the washer/dryer that I bought was demo or new because it was missing some critical supportive foams!!! At the time, I didn't report because I was new to the area and wasn't sure whether I am right.
This seems to be the store's General Policy to sell demos instead of new and give completely wrong information about their products to rip people off.
