I was warned about these peopole along with Kristin Wolfe and Ken Montoya by a friend as I am looking for window coverings. I went to the Peoria Chaber for a referral and contacted Valley of the Sun Window Coverings via email. When doing so I noticed that the email address was [email protected] and asked them if they were the same Manley that worked for discount.... read the replys below.....

I am looking for shutters for my new home and found your company on the Peoria Chamber of Commerce website. When speaking with a friend he thinks you may be the same Manley that worked at Discount Blind and Shade. I need to know if this is so as he indicated that you do not have a very positive track record.

Yes I did work for discount. I have changed to a difern't company. I know my track record is not good at this time because of the copany I was working for. The company I work for now is a good company. We are based out of Tempe and are doing buiness the way it should be done. I need to be sure that you are not the same company. Also, if you work for the company, why are you the contact person listed on the chamber of commerce website? This is usually the owner or partner of the company that is listed on the chamber web site. Eric, the owners of the company are Ron Brown and Wes Mcluaghlin. Wes and I both worked at discount as employees. The owners of discount were Ken Montoya and Kristen Wolf. When we found out what was going on, we left the Company. Ron Brown has been in the business for eight years. He owend cascade blinds and sold it to Legacy Shutters. They supply us with are blinds and shutters and are located in Chanler. He purchased Wild West shutters and started Valley of the Sun Window covering. This is the information that my friend has given me and according to ripoffreport.com. How many companies does Wes own? It seems that Ken Montoya & Wes are still working together since Ken is running Shutters USA and Wes is the owner. I'm sorry but this seems like an ongoing problem with your group of people.

Hi Eric, my name is Wes McLaughlin. Manley forwarded the e-mails that you two have been sending to each other. I'd like to be the one who explains this whole situation so that you can make a well informed decision on whether or not you would like to do business with us. We would very much like to be the company that you buy shutters from, and hopefully you will see that it's safe to do business with us.
I met Ken Montoya and Kristen Wolf through our 2 year old daughters, three years ago. In October of 2004, Ken convinced me to look into the window covering industry. It really seemed like a "no-brainer" with the building trends and how easy the product is to sell. Ken and I were never "friends", he's not the type of guy that I would normally hang out with, but we worked together. I thought that he possessed the same values as I did, and trusted him. From the time that I started to work with him, he made promises that he never seemed to be able to live up to. It takes awhile sometimes to see through this kind of stuff when someone is promising it to your face. Anyways, throughout the summer, he and Kristen would continue to come up with excuses as to why the product wasn't coming in, mostly blaming it on other people such as the factories. I, and the rest of the staff, believed that everything that they were telling us was the truth, and just tried to wait it out. As the "V.P. of Sales", I called the factories and asked what was going on with all of our orders, the answer was, "we haven't been paid". When I brought this to Ken and Kristen's attention, they denied it and again blamed it on the factories.
In the middle of November, I told them that I was going to leave. They again convinced me that if I stayed they would start fresh with a new name for the company, and all of the profits from the sales would go solely to paying off Discount Blind and Shade customer's product. Like an idiot, I again trusted them. I went with Ken to the Maricopa County Trustee to get a trade name set up with the new company. Getting a trade name is not starting a company, or owning a company. They use Santa Fe Outwest or Blind and Shade Factory as their main company and Discount Blind and Shade Factory, Shutters USA, and North American Shutters is a DBA (doing business as). Ken had me fill out the paperwork for Shutters USA. I had no idea that people would think that I owned Shutters USA just by securing the name. Shutters USA is Ken and Kristen's company under either Santa Fe Outwest or Blind and Shade Factory. I'm not sure which business they put it under; I was not privy to those types of things. Once a document is filed with the county, it can't be "un-filed". I did however on December 17th, file a notarized document stating that I never had any financial or legal obligation with Shutters USA, just secured the name. I left the company on December 5th.
I was going to get out of this industry all together just because of the taste that the whole mess left with me. I spoke to the president of Legacy Window Coverings for quite awhile about it. I asked him if he knew anyone in the industry who wanted to do the right thing. I wanted to know if there was anyone out there who was even honest enough to do business with. He had me meet with Ron Brown, whom he had bought his blind manufacturing company from. Being skeptical, we interviewed each other over a couple of days, and found that we possessed the same values. We want to do the right thing every single time for our customers, that's it. Pretty basic, but its how everyone at this company believes. I could have taken all of the sales people from Discount Blind and Shade Factory if I wanted to, but out of seven salespeople, I chose one. Manley is a great guy with a family, just like me, and wants nothing but to do the right thing for himself and his customers. I can assure you that if you spoke to any one of the successful manufacturers out there, they would have nothing but good things to say about our staff. They know what we went through.
As for ripoffreport.com, I'm amazed that people are allowed to get away with saying the stuff they do on there. I responded to a couple of the statements about me in the beginning, and if you read them you'll see that I saying the same thing here that I did then. I don't have time to spend all day on that site, so I've decided to let it go. I was never an owner of Discount Blind and Shade Factory or Shutters USA. There were two owners, people who are STILL doing business out there, Ken and Kristen Montoya. You probably know that to be an owner, there needs to be Articles of Incorporation, business and tax licenses, that sort of stuff. I never even knew about this until I joined up with Ron. I'm not working with Ken and never would be again. I haven't even spoke to them or let my daughter see their daughter since December 5 th. So any myth about Ken and I doing business is false. Believe me; I'll do whatever it takes to get these two out of the industry. Currently I've been working with Channel 5, letting them know that we are still finding their flyers out there. As much as those customers lost through Discount, I lost a lot more. They owe me for 1 ? months pay, plus money for 4 checks that bounced. It hasn't been fun.
I realize that this has been a long letter, but, if you wanted to know everything in a nut shell, here it is. I would encourage you to come down to our showroom, or talk to my partner, our vendors, anyone. I'm trying to do the right thing, and I may run into a few people who I've dealt with in the past. But I'll deal with it, I have nothing to hide. I wouldn't put my name out there in the Chambers if I had something to be ashamed of. I want to have a company that is part of the community, a company that people will be proud to refer. I could have gone back and done a number of things for a living, I've only been doing window coverings for a year and a half, I chose to stay because I know that this can be done the right way.
