I went over to my friend house this weekend for a after Christmas get together. He showed me his new 36" TV that he won in a contest. Then he proceded to tell me about going to Best Buy in the Hayward area to buy a Surround Sound System. When he got there, a guy came up to him in the parking lot and offered to sell him a set of $2000 DOGG surround sound speakers for $800.00. His story was that he use to work for DOGG or some other stereo store but his boss didn't paid him and he took the speakers as payment. Needless to say he ended up forking over $450.00 for them.

At first glance they look O.K. but when you pick them up they were way too light to be $2000.00 speakers. The enclosures were made of cheap plastic, not metal, the subwoofer is a passive one not powered, the drivers probablly has 1 LB magnets not the 5 LB ones you would expect on a $2000.00 speaker system and they use cheap push-in speaker wire terminals instead of bannana plug post. No where on the speakers is the name DOGG mention. All they have is a label that reads Digital Pro Audio or Digital Audio. They are new and they do work, for now. The speakers are worth no more (and sounds no better) than $150.00 in the stores or $100.00 at the flea market. But at least from the store there's a warranty. No such thing here. It also didn't come with any spec sheet, the only one he saw was the one the guy showed him in the van. Another friend of his got some specs for DOGG speakers and they are $2000.00 speakers. But these aren't DOGG speakers. Evidently the company DOGG does exist and they do sell expensive speakers. Though I've never heard of them.

Again, this happened in the Hayward, California area. I'm not sure of the exact location of the Best Buy where this happened.

Did a little research on my own and found out that DOGG is not a high end audio speaker company. Though you could find expensive DOGG speakers, the speakers are crap with an impressive spec sheet and inflated retail price. They give the same sorry story there in the parking lots. I guess this is where the rip off artist go if they don't have a van to sell out of. Either that or these are the people that bought from the lot and are now trying to recoup some of thier losses. Not to many buyers. I guess computer people are a little less gullible.
