The following is a complaint about Doug Coleman Trucking Ltd. in London, Ontario. I want all customers and employees to be aware of this company's business practices.

I am a former employee and was hired in the fall of 2014. Recently, in February of 2016, Doug Coleman and his Vice President of Operations, Rick Miller, announced they would be closing the Windsor terminal and all employees would be laid off, effective February 21, 2016. Doug Coleman claimed that it was due to too many expedites being done by management, which was costing the company too much money. It was actually Doug Coleman who bidded on several loads/runs that he knew would be impossible to cover.

Doug Coleman Trucking claims to be paying drivers $18.15 an hour, when this is, in fact, not true. Doug Coleman and Rick Miller have all runs set up as "flat rates" which is significantly lower than your actual hours worked. For example: A run from Windsor, Ontario to Wauseon, Ohio takes approximately 8 hours to complete. Factor in Ambassador Bridge traffic, wait time at customer, etc. Doug Coleman pays this run at 6.4 hours, "FLAT RATE" so be prepared to put in a few hours you're not going to be paid for. Another example is from Windsor, Ontario to Toronto is paid at 10.4 hours "FLAT RATE" when the run takes a full 14 hours to complete. This company does not provide the "flat rate" reasoning in writing, and they actually make a policy to lie to prospective drivers upon hire. You do not find out about their flat rate system until you see your first paycheck.

Another major problem with this company is releasing employees' personal information. Recently, after giving two weeks notice that all Windsor employees would be thrown out of work, several drivers have been solicited for employment by other companies, in an effort by Doug Coleman to prevent EI claims. Companies have said Doug Coleman has provided to them: Driver's personal information (home addresses, phone numbers), copies of their driving abstract and CVOR (to determine employable or not) and even PHOTOS of employees to identify them! This behaviour is not only totally unprofessional, it is also illegal.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, this is an awful company and I can only hope they are investigated soon.
