I purchased two puppies (male and female) from Mr. Sanjoseph Tan last year in October 2010. Prior to Mr. Tan sending both puppies to me, he informed me that they had been examined by a vet and were in excellent medical condition. However, the pictures that Mr. Tan sent me of the male puppy, his eyes seem to have patches of fur missing around it.
I questioned Mr. Tan concerning this; he informed me that nothing was wrong and that the vet said both dogs were fine. Given that information, I continued to send Mr. Tan money and paid for both dogs. Mr. Tan shipped both puppies to me with limited registration because I was not sure if I wanted to breed the dogs. He also informed me that he could always go back and change the information if I change my mind and decide to breed the dogs.
About two months later I noticed that Rocko my male puppy started to lose fur around his eyes. As a result, I took him to see a vet in a facility called Abundant Care Vet. Dr. Wallace at Abundant Care Vet informed me that the breeder had sold me a dog with Demodecosix Mange. He also indicated to me that a dog with this kind of skin condition cannot be bred and that the condition is hereditary.
I was very angry because I emailed Mr. Tan several times concerning both dogs and their condition. During the same month, Cheyenne my female dog was diagnosed with Panosteitis. Mr. Tan said that he did dont know what to say because he would have to speak with his vet. After that, I never heard from Mr. Tan again although I made several attempts to email and call him. He rarely responded to my emails or voicemail message, and after a while, he totally stopped all communication with me.
Finally about a month later, Rocko (male dog) started to limp. I took him to see Dr. Mary Hill at Well Pet Humane Vet Clinic and she informed me that he has Severe Hip Dysplasia. The X-rays were shocking because it was so bad that before she informed me of what was wrong I notice the joint out of place. She informed me that I would have to wait until he is at least one year old in order for a specialist to perform the required surgery. At the time of the exam, he was only 5 months old. I have email Mr. Tan several times but since he has already been paid he does not respond to my calls as often as he did before he was paid.
Mr. Tan informed me that I would have to pay to send both dogs back to him and pay to have new ones shipped out. This is very unprofessional and someone like this does not deserve to have AKC support and should not be allowed to carry their name. Mr. Tan also informed me that if I were to return both dogs to him, he would have to put them down because the dogs have been neutered/ spaded and would be of no use to his profession as a breeder. Mr. Tan showed no remorse or concern for the lives of the dogs nor did not have any regards for the emotional turmoil that he put my daughter and I through.
My daughter and I have become attached to both dogs. As such, I refused to send the dogs back to Mr. Tan as they have become part of my family and I do not believe in euthanasia even when it pertains to an animal. Mr. Tan has since then updated his web site with all the information that I have spoken to him about. Mr. Tans website now states that X-rays should be taken before dogs are six months, however, stated in his prior website and emails that I have received from him, state that he offers all buyers a two year Hip Dysplasia warranty. I have several emails to prove that he offers buyer a two year warranty.
This man should be banned from being affiliated with AKC as he does not follow the rules, regulation of such a highly recognized kennel club. I do not believe he sent me the dogs from the litter that I requested because I am in Acworth, GA and could not go by his home to check on them. He sent me two dogs that are ill and have serious issues however; he still charged me the regular price of $1000 for each dog for pet quality and limited registration. I am letting you know this because I called AKC to find out about this breeder before I purchased these dogs and AKC said he had a good reputation however, I find his integrity to be questionable.
Please notice the following letters from Dr. Matt Corse from Northlake Veterinary Specialist who will attest to Rockos Hip Dysplasia as well as the X-rays taken from Dr. Corses office. I also have copies of some of the emails that Mr. Tan sent me and pictures of Rockos eyes prior to him being shipped to me.
