If I had seen all the complaints against East Coast Moving System a year ago, I would never of used them!
Their on-line ad claimed they were in business for many years (20 if I'm not mistaken) and they made a point to have the customer check first with the BBB, etc to prove they were a legitimate business and the truth is, I found no complaints anywhere... not until later this year!
ECMS did not honor their contract with me from the very beginning and in fact, sub-contracted the moving job to another company without my knowledge or consent. Globe Van Lines of California (another company who has many complaints about them on this site) came to pick up our belongings in a small, white unmarked truck over 3 days late...And that's when the problems began! So many things did not go right with both companies from the start and yet, I kept believing things were going to work out in the end.
I was wrong...It is now over a year later and we still don't have our things back! Although I still have some hope, I'm not so sure we will be as lucky as the others who have recently had their things returned to them.
Globe Van Lines has proved to be very agressive and uncooperative in dealing with us as customers of ECMS and I feel like our belongings are being held hostage until we come up with the money for ransom! Without any storage contract,(which GVL refuses to give) I'm afraid to give this company any money for fear they will take it and keep our things anyway...We were told (by ECMS) our belongings were in LA, then(by GVL)in San Fransisco and who knows where they are now--I have no proof they even still exist!
As for getting any support or help from ECMS they have been unavailable for quite some time and from what I can tell, no longer in business. I tried to get help through places like AMSA, but I have been told there is nothing they can do about my situation since it involves two states, etc. With some advice from a complaint forum I joined, I am now in the process of contacting the FBI in Miami so that I will hopefully get some feedback as to what I'm supposed to do.
My advice to anyone who is looking for a moving company--BEWARE!
Be very careful--know the rules and reguations before you hire a mover and be sure to get as much info about them as possible! Even if you do find a truly reputable company, keep any of your important, personal belongings that can't be easily replaced such as photographs, etc with you...I'd hate for someone to go through what I am now by making the same mistake of not having those things seperated when moving!

CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business?
