Had a trial, one week offer for eDiets.com website.  After one week, was charged for a month of service, and called several days later to cancel the membership.  Was told on the phone that there would be a $25 early termination fee.  No other explanation offered; so was charged the monthly rate as well as an additional $25 to cancel after less than two weeks.

I have contacted the company, via email, to provide my "lost" email address.  I am still receiving requests, at this point, for additional telephone conversations of which I will no longer participate.  All correspondence should occur with me via email and in writing.

No additional or new information has been provided to me at this point by the company other than additional requests for phone conversation.

I have emailed the company as requested by the employee; I have requested that the $25 cancellation fee be credited back to my credit card account.  I received no service in the 10 days I was a "member" (seven days of that a free trial period) and actually paid for a month of service/membership anyway; so an additional fee simply to cancel is not appropriate.  I am prepared, based on the response I receive from the company, to file a complaint with my state attorney general's office if necessary.

I was told by the person who processed my cancellation, that I would have to pay for three months of service to avoid the cancellation fee.  So it would have cost me $53.85 to avoid the $25 fee...and I still paid out $42.95...not much of a difference in what it costs the consumer to cancel this membership.

Dear SK:

We regret that you were dissatisfied with our online weight loss services. I am reaching out to make sure our terms and conditions were clear and were followed, and to see how we can work with you to improve the experience.

Our free trial program does not charge until the 8th day, as is clearly stated on the landing page.

Regarding the early termination fee: Unlike other weight loss services, we do not charge an upfront registration fee, because we want to reduce barriers to people looking for help to achieve healthy, sustained weight loss. As we state in the terms and conditions, we do have an early termination fee policy to encourage members to remain on the program for at least 12 weeks, which we've found to be the minimum amount of time to determine the success of a program.

I strongly encourage you to reach out to us so we can review your account and resolve your concerns. You can email us at [email protected], and please use this subject line "Supervisor Escalation - ETF" so we can quickly identify the issue. Please include your user name or the email you used to create the account.

We look forward to hearing from you.
