I recently received my AT&T phone bill and discovered a charge for $13.60 from Enhanced Billing Services Inc. charging me for something I never authorized or even had any prior knowledge of. The charge was dated for May 3 and said it was made on behalf of ROCKET COMM SVCS EFAX & VMAIL.

I immediately called AT&T and was told by a customer service rep that this was a third party charge added to my AT&T phone bill and they knew nothing about it and could not help me figure out what it was even for. I was told to call the number for EBSI directly which was listed on page 4 of my AT&T bill.

I called that number which was 888-300-0549 and was unable to actually speak to a customer rep. even after trying to a dozen different times over a two day span of time. An automated service kept putting me through to a message machine and I was told a customer rep would be calling me back. However, that NEVER happened!

After I persistently called and left messages, I finally out of frustration, began researching what ESBI even was. I wanted to know who I was dealing with and what I was being charged for! Much to my dismay, I discovered hundreds of AT&T customers have been charged for unauthorized services by ESBI and they are known as BILLING AGGREGATORS cramming unauthorized charges for services on AT&T accounts and agreed to settle with the Federal Trade Commission on allegations that they had unfair and deceptive practices and violated the FTC Act & FTC's 900-Number rule. Obviously they have not stopped doing since it just happened to me!

I am not alone, hundreds of other consumers are continuing to experience this happening to them as well.

The public needs to be alerted as to what is going on! Many unsuspecting consumers pay their bills without realizing these unauthorized charges are on them. Some paid hundreds of dollars before they realized they were being charged for something they knew nothing about. I went on line and read numerous accounts of this occurring! This is a nightmare!

I have filed complaints with the FCC, PUC and the FTC, but the public needs to be made aware and something needs to done to stop them from doing this!!!! In 2001, EBSI went to court and was charged for doing this, but that hasn't stopped them and I cannot sit back and let this continue. I'm hoping enough exposure and public awareness will bring an end to them being able to do this.

Consumers MUST in the very least be warned!!
