I subscribed to experteer because I was looking for high end jobs, the fees are in Euros, much higher than other high end job online boards like The Ladders or Execunet, for example. My suscription was paid through Paypal and was supposed to renew for an additional month automatically exactly on the 11th day of each month. The morning of the 11th of July I contacted them through their online email support requesting cancellation of my subscription which had already been charged by Paypal. The subscription is paid in advance, meaning that on the 11th of each month I was being charged for the month of 7/11 to 8/11, and as I said, I had contacted them the morning of 7/11. I received a reply the following day saying that my account was cancelled but that there will be no refund, here is what the email said textually as I am copy pasting it: " Dear Mr. XXXXX,

Thank you very much for your enquiry.

The Premium Membership is renewed automatically so as to offer you uninterrupted access to all the services offered by Experteer. It has been conveyed to you during the subscription process that unless you inform us before the expiration of your subscription, it will be renewed automatically. This information is displayed and always visible on the Premium sign-up page - right under the button "Confirm Upgrade". The automatic prolongation is also part of our terms and conditions.



We regret that a refund is unfortunately not possible.


 


For your convenience, we will cancel your Premium Membership at the end of the current subscription period: August 11th, 2016. It will not be renewed automatically after the expiration of the current subscription.


 

Your candidate account at Experteer will still remain active. At the end of your current subscription period, you may continue to use career services offered by Experteer as a Basic Member. Please use your current username and password in order to edit your profile or upgrade to Premium Membership. As a Basic Member you will have limited access to Experteer’s unique service offerings (large selection of Premium Jobs with a salary benchmark of €60,000 / £45,000 / $100k, discrete access to recruiter network, career matching) since they are Premium services.

Basically they say that because I did not cancel before Paypal paid, even though I requested immediate cancellation, they would keep me for an additional month on a service that I did not want. This sounds like a ripoff to me, why should I remain one month on a service that I did not want to use any longer, they could have refunded the full amount which I cancelled the exact same day it "renewed" for a month. Instead, I am being forced to remain with an unwanted service for a whole month? How is this fair? Why not just refund the COMPLETELY UNUSED MONTH? A total ripoff!
