That's interesting to hear about a form, but I see what you mean about being "worn down". I think when my g/f (at the time - now wife) bought into the Discovery program, it was our 1st trip with Fairfield and we had no idea what an "owners update" was. We spent about 2.5 hours from the initial meeting to getting lead into a separate area that discussed the Discovery program. We went to Hawaii and told the sales rep before he could open his mouth what we wanted. Granted, it still took a lot of time because he has to use his sales pitch but we kept knocking down the down payment (this was going toward another property, my wife and I have two now) till we found something affordable. I think if you do your research in advance, although down payments are impossible to guess (they actually ran my credit, which had never happened before), you can be more prepared. I don't forsee us needing to buy more points for a long time, as we have plenty. Then again, they have over 500,000 owners, so they must be doing something right. We have never felt ripped off. It was not written in the actual contract but was written on another form presented to me. They made it appear it was in the contract when it actually was not. After about 3 hours of Fairfield wearing you down, this is how they slide things in on you. All in all, it is my fault. I should have read the contract closer before I signed it. However, it shows the way they do business. I truly hope you like the program and are not one who is stuck with a lifetime of maintenance fee's, while not getting to go on vacation when you want. I really was interested in Fairfield, but have seen first hand how booked they are and how difficult it is to book your vacation. thanks

I am curious, was there anything in the contract that stated the Discovery Package would not expire till Dec. 2008? If it was in writing Wyndham has to honor it. My wife and I bought a Discovery Package back in October 2005 in Atlantic City, and we knew we couldn't use the points for six months (this is stated in the contract) or until 800 dollars had been paid into the package. However, that does not prevent you from booking a vacation. We were able to use all our points in the Discovery package in the time we had to, and it helped in buying more points later on (which is really the benefit and their selling point - since they use that month/year's prices when trying to get you to buy more points).
