This company emailed me thanking for signing up for their Family Emergency Contact Service. I was to be charged 15.95 and then a monthly fee of $7.95 which would appear on my phine bill. The email also displayed my full home address and telephone number.

At the bottom of the email message was a link to cancel these services if done within 72 hours. I did click on the link and was immediately sent a confirmation that I had cancelled this service.

You may have been a victim of a scam. Your Name and phone number is something that can usually be gotten from quick searches and other Databases. By clicking on that e-mail you confirmed that you were that person. In effect telling them that was a valid E-mail address, Physical Address and Phone Number, if it included your name then that also. Hopefully this was legitimate in that you were signed up(by mistake?) and they gave you a chance to cancel. But it also could be a case of "phishing". At the very least you have just opened up yourself to tons of spam, junk e-mail and sales calls because they have all of this valid information. Companies pay top dollar to buy these advertising databases that they know have valid information. At most they could use that information to actually sign you up for services and charge you for things you never wanted. So in the future you need to be careful about what you click on.
