I was "Recruited" by Family Dollar in the winter of 2000-2001 and promised 32000 per year for a 50 hour work week. No problem I said. I had to train with another store manager. He typically worked 45 to 50 hours a week. I thought this cannot be so bad. Todd and I talked for three or for weeks and finally my turn had come. I was given my own store on 28th st in Grand Rapids.

Three AD's and 5 managers came to hiring day. We gired the needed 22 people to help set up and open the store. I worked 50 hours per week for about three weeks and all was going so good. We had the Grand opening and it was exciting. The store was perfect and shoppers from all over the city were coming in. My AD Sheila came in on day and said I have to cut my labor from 2700 to 2200 dollars per week.

now with my 650 [er week and my assistants 400 per week that gave me 1150 per week to staff the store. I was open for 78 hhours per week and it was a 7 day per week store. This came to be about 14.75 per hour that I could pay some one to be in my employ, but I could not pay some one that kind of money to work 78 hours. Ultimaly this labor was cut to 1350 per week. So between my asst mgr and I we had the following schedule. I would open he would close my hours were 7 till 215 7 days a week that wasd my fifty hours h*o could only work....well any way you probably did not make it this far any way.

When I quit I was working my 9th 85 to 90 hour week. I had so much stock in my over sized stock room that I could not walk through the room. Yet I still had to order 600 lines per week. When my daughter was born I got a whole three hours off. The threats of termination were everpresent and if you were a store manager and kissed the ADs a** then you were loved. I did not and never will I kiss an a*s to get ahead in any company I work for. The is the worst copmpany in america to work for and I would not let anyone I know try and even interview with them.

WHY did you take this? You can't get job retraining and do better if you don't like this? I wouldn't have liked it either. These people sound more like a THIRD WORLD LABOR CAMP or something! But it seems they will always find people desperate enough to work for them! No matter employee morale, pilferage, theft and dissatisfaction is at an all-time high. Well it would have gotten rid of some of your excess inventory... I will consider this the next time I shop at a Family Dollar! The ones in Texas are a bit more under control by our State's employment regulations,it seems. SO FAR GET OUT OF THERE! RETRAIN FOR ANOTHER JOB! RETAIL SUX!

I am not sure what an AD is. I have worked for this company for 16 years and have never heard that term. Also, assts are not now and never have been salaried. So you can give them any hours as long as it is atleast 30.
