Sent via overnight mail a cashiers check to pay off car loan. Enclosed a paid overnight mail envelope and a stamped regular envelope to expedite return of lien waiver and over payment. What a joke for "customer service".

5th 3rd received check on Monday 4/24/2006. Called their so called "customer service" on Wed, Fri, Sat that week to inquire on the status of loan payoff, and was told lien waiver had been sent to the party I enclosed the overnight return envelope to.

Nothing but untruths. "Was sent, has been sent, went out yesterday" - all untruths from 5th's customer service reps.

Called Tuesday May 2 and told it went out on Sat. April 29, 2006.

Another untruth from 5th 3rd's customer service dept. Called May 4, 2006 again and told it went out yesterday. I asked for the tracking number for the overnight shipment and the himmin and hawin started again. I asked for the telephone number of the Pres. of 5th 3rd bank and was told we don't give out that information. I demanded to speak to a supervisor in "titling dept." - "they don't speak to customers and we don't give out their number." After multiple requests, I was put on hold for several minutes, and then told the bank made an "oversight" and the lien waiver would be sent out "overnight" today. We'll see.

This bank hides behind untruths and has poor customer service to say the least. Lets talk about the 8 day "wait" period that the banking industry has hid behind for years. It is an "excuse" to

sit on millions of customers and billions of dollars and use their money for "free". The fact is this: this is the "electronic age" and it only takes seconds to confirm a transaction, not 8 days. I know because I worked in the IT business for 20 yrs. What is the banking industry's next excuse for poor customer service?

If you think "seconds" to complete a transaction is stretching it? Try using a "debit card" against your checking account that results in an "overdraft or underfunding" of your account. See how many "days" it takes to get hit with an "overdraft charge". I'll bet it won't be days, but seconds. Eight days is an excuse.

And if you think 8 days is a stretch, try out 5th 3rd bank's latest customer service tale. "It can take up to 4 weeks to complete your loan payoff." That is what I was told on May 4, 2006.

It is time to write your State Banking Regulators, Congressional and Senatorial Representatives. To see how much this "may help" you as an individual consumer, go do an internet search, and see how much money the banking industry contributes to your legistlative representatives. Then you'll understand why consumers are getting porked, while the banks are porking-up on your free money.
