I purchased a Formica flooring system similar to the Pergo tongue and groove system. The promotional advertising indicted it was a tough floor warranteed for 10 years. They advertised a tough laminated surface that could withstand great pressure and last a long time, be waterproof and scuff resistant. Based upon there false claims I installed at great cost and time a floor in my kitchen.

Within 2 years, after a dish or cup or plate fell on the floor it developed a crack in the laminate which allowed water to damage the floor. I reported the damage to the Formica and they denyed my warranty under the argument that it excluded impact damage.

I wrote a letter to the president of the company telling him that the floor was not abused and the damage was caused by the normal use of a kitchen where it is not uncommon for dishes to fall.

I expected some response from the company, but not only did the president not help, he never even answered my letter. Obviously, Formica, a well known brand, does not care about its customers after they have your money, nor do they respond to complaint letters. I will NEVER buy another Formica product again and I strongly recommend that nobody buy any of their products.

The warranties state Wear-Fade-Stain-Water Damage. The fine print tells you accidents are excluded. Knocking a plate or a cup off the counter is clearly an accident. Laminate floors are made to be walked on. However-- A little known fact about laminate floors is that there are two kinds. High Pressure Laminate( HPL ) is the strongest and it will resist impacts. Formica falls into the category of Direct Pressure Laminate ( DPL ). It is the weaker of the two. Next time you shop for laminate ask to have someone show you the difference. You will be quite surprised.

I'm sure if you contact the installer or if you're a "do-it-yourselfer", your supplier you will find that you will get a positive response.I am a manufacturer and use many Formica products in our product. The Formica Corp authorizes installers and suppliers to address warranty issues as long as the installer and/or supplier is sanctioned by the company or the local distributor for Formica. I have the option to use many products by other manufacturers and have found that Formica has always backed their products 100%. I feel if you use the chain of command your floor will be taken care of.I'm sure that the president of Formica didn't intend on pushing you off, he must be a very busy person with thousands of employees, millions of customers, and the responsbility to guide a huge corporation thru such troubled times as we all know too well. Formica is an American company and employ people that are proud to work for America.
