Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

The caller began by stating he was an attorney and the information he had to discuss with me was very confidetial and he needed to verify I was the person he was calling.  He made sure my name was of the person he wanted to speak with and then he asked that I verify my birth date.  I told him there was no way I was going to do that, he could sned me info in the mail or call back aleave information on my voice message system.

He called back and left the name of the company he represents and still said he was an attorney and he was calling to collect on a past due credit card account.

Well, the first thing I did was google the company name and found them to be not what he was representing himself to be.  I also google earthed the address and found them to be in a little shopping center.

Thei ebsite is very attractive and could be very deceiving if I did not know any better than many consumers.  I worked in the credit industry for many years and know the laws and what to watch out for.

So, this number is nowset up as a do not answer on my phone.  Having been laid off last year, I can barely pay for utilities and with unemployment soon to run out and being over 55, I am really concerned as to what I am going to do.  So having this guy call is the least of my worries.  Being in this situation is very humiliating to say the least.  It's a shame that creditors do not look at those accounts that have been paid as required and more and allow some kind of leeway for those people instead of turing the account over to some agency like these people.

You worked in the Credit Industry?

Really?  You worked in the credit industry and still wonder why Creditors turn delinquent accounts over to Collection Agencies?

It's a shame that creditors do not look at those accounts that have been paid as required and more and allow some kind of leeway for those people instead of turing the account over to some agency like these people.

- Creditors do not go after people who are current.  In the PAST you may have paid them per the terms(and maby even more), but that is what you agreed to do when you borrowed the money.  If you still have an outstanding debt and are not paying on it you are now delinquent.

How much leeway should they give you?  Should they just forgive the debt?  Should they let you pay only what YOU want?  Should they just let you skip 6-7 months of payments without interest or late fees?  Please tell us exactly what special treatment you think you deserve?

Now, with that said since you worked in credit you should be aware of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  As such you should know that if they make claims that are not true you can go after them.  So if the person claimed to be an attorney and was not, then you may have a good case.
