I found this company online when I was looking for a speaker dock that worked with my daughter's Sony MP3 player. I knew the model I wanted, and since this was two weeks before Christmas is was hard to find. FuturePowerPC is the only company that had it in stock, or so they claimed.

I placed my order on December 15, and got a confiramtion number. I payed a "rush charge" to make sure it would get there in time for Christmas. It didn't. Everything else I ordered online that day arrived in plenty of time.

My daughter was in tears on Christmas morning becaue "everyone else got a big present." This was supposed to be hers. I assured her that it would arrive "any day now." It did not.

I tried to call them numerous times, the line was always busy. My daughter sadly checked for her package every day and said "Mommy it still didn't come."

On JANUARY 2 I received the following e-mail for FuturePowerPC, the first communication from them since I got the order confirmationon the 15th of December.

"Dear Customer,

You have recently placed an order of "PIANO BLACK WOODEN DOCK SPEAKER 1113-SRSNWGU50" with FuturePowerPC and unfortunately the 1 piece currently in our warehouse is a defective unit that was returned. We don't feel comfortable to resell this unit to our customers in its current condition.

While we are waiting to fulfill your order we will keep your order on hold and NOT charge your account until your order has shipped. Should inventory become available within the next 3-4 days we will ship your order out immediately unless otherwise contacted by you.

You can contact us electronically from our website or you can call us at 516-466-2370. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm EST."

Of course, the phone number still didn't work. I wrote an angry e-mail back, and on Jan 4 got the following helpful communique:

"Dear Margaret,

Your order 3021016 has been cancelled.

Since we are unable to find a replacement for your order, we will not charged your account. If you used PayPal as your payment method, we will NOT capture you payment and your money will be automatically released to your account by PayPal.

We are sorry your order was unable to be fulfilled, if you are interested in another unit, you can simply respond to this email or you can reach us at 516-466-2370 Mon-Fri 9:00AM-5:30PM EST.

Kindest Regards,

FuturePowerPC Customer Service Team"

Seriously? How can this company stay in business??

You got your money back, end of story. Did it take a little bit of time? Yes, but I bet you they are rather busy during the holiday season.

Christopher,

Sounds like you don't have kids. You are, of course correct. I am spoiled, and so is my daughter...but I'm not sure what that has do with any of this, or why you feel the need to pass judgement. The company was using unfair advertising and shady business practices.

The fact that they waited so long to contact me is inexcusable. They offered the opportunity to pay a "rush charge" which would make any reasonable person assume the item was in stock. (That and the fact that they SAID it was in stock.)

I'm curious about why you would feel the need to defend them. I recommend you never get into merchandising if you feel their business model is acceptable.

Christopher, how do you justify that they are being a responsible company? Why would you jump all over this person, and insult them and their child when they have done nothing to you? She made a legitimate claim. This company said the product was in stock, she was supposed to receive it shortly after ordering it, and the company instead waits 3 weeks to tell her that the unit she was supposed to receive was a returned defective unit? If this was true, I would imagine they would have noticed this the day that they were to send it, not so long after the fact. Sounds more to me like shady business practices, selling products they do not have in stock and hoping to receive and then send them out in time.

First of it sounds to me like your daughter might be a tad on the spoiled side if missing out on 1 gift on Christmas causes her to break down into tears. Second of all you sound like a spoiled consumer who has a complete inabilty to understand that sometimes things are not that simple. This company stood by its products and reputation and did not simply take your cash and send you an inferior unit. Instead of being understanding you decided to be a brat, blow up their support, and escalated it to the point that they would rather refund you then deal with you.

Grow up, act like an adult, and realize that the world does not revolve around you.
