I bought a used Chevy Malibu from these guys. Since it was used, I thought it would be a good idea to get an extended warranty in case anything goes wrong on the car. I asked them, since I do not live anywhere close to them, what I would do in case I needed a repair on the car. They told me that since I lived more than 50 miles from the dealership, that I could take it to any Chevy dealer I wanted to, because I am buying the extended warranty through Chevy. My transmission goes out right after I bought it. Then the fun really began..........It turns out that they sold me an "aftermarket" warranty from a company that nobody has ever heard of. I called every Chevy dealer I could find and not one of them had ever heard of my warranty company before so they couldnt accept them for the repair. I called Gateway about a million times or so and I have gotten nowhere at all. I am paying $400 a month for a car that wont even run. This company preys on the people that have bad or no credit. Once you sign those papers they wont want anything to do with you. I have learned a very expensive lesson about car buying.......DO NOT GO TO GATEWAY.

Implied warranty of merchantability

The Universal Commercial Code has been adopted by almost every state and provides for an implied warranty of merchantability when purchasing a used car (or anything) from a DEALER. You might check with your state's Dept of consumer affairs to learn exaclty how Illonois has adopted the UCC. In many cases a customer has some protections when purchasing a used vehicle (from a dealer) for anywhere between 30 to 120 days (varies from state to state) from the date of purchase. Didn't you receive any paperwork for this "extended warranty?" Is there any contact information about the underwriter of this insurance policy? (that's really what it is.) Good luck.
