This is how Giant RV in Montclair, Ca, treated a 70 year old couple on Social Security and a decorated Viet Nam Veteran, trying to purchase a usable NEW RV .

10/2012, We made a deal with Giant RV for a NEW Motor Home for $73,000.  We traded in a pull trailer in excellent condition.  Giant RV gave us $12,000.00 for our trailer.  We had to come up with an additional $6,000.00 for the down payment,  Total down payment of $18,000.00 .  All the options weren’t installed on the Motor Home, so there was a delay in the delivery date.  After 4 weeks we couldn’t wait any longer, so we picked up the Motor Home without all the options.  We were gong on a planned family vacation.

11/13. I dropped off the Motor Home at Giant R V for some miscellaneous repairs and install the rest of the options, mainly the leveling jacks.  Two weeks later we picked up Motor Home. Repairs and options completed. Less than 50 miles from Montclair, the leveling jack leaked all the fluid from the reservoir.  Returned to Giant RV for repairs. Repaired.

6/13, Returned the Motor Home to Giant RV for numerous repairs plus leaking leveling jacks.  I waited over 8 hours in the waiting room.   At 4:00, the service department adjusted one blind.  Ryan said I had to come back.  We were leaving on vacation and didn’t have time to make another trip to Giant RV.  We left on our trip with broken leveling jacks and numerous issues that needed repair.

During our trip, the Motor Home started having more repair issues.   Panels falling off the ceiling, screws backing out from the floor, wirings hanging from the ceiling, blinds not working, drawers won’t stay shut, kitchen sink sprayer doesn’t work, carpet peeling up from the floor, carpet falling down from the drivers side, seat back cushions peeling off and while in the shop, service personnel got overspray on the ladder, and the list goes on.

After our vacation, we had enough of things breaking and having to make the repairs ourselves.  We still had over 15 items that needed repair.  So, we talked to Giant RV and made a deal to trade this unusable Lemon in on a 5th Wheel Toy Hauler with a 12 foot garage.  We were very adamant about the size of the garage, IT MUST BE 12 FOOT LONG.  Our OHV is over 11 feet, 6 inches long with no wiggle room.  The Giant RV salesman said we have a 5th Wheel with a 12, foot garage.  If fact he said that he measured the garage and it was 12 feet long, Here is the deal, Giant RV takes the Motor Home in trade plus $15,000 cash. .  We set a date to return the Motor Home and pick up the 5th Wheel.

8/13, Giant RV said that the 5th Wheel is ready.  When we arrived at Giant RV with the Motor Home, three people from the service department were working on our New 5th Wheel. After doing all the paper work, we went to the 5th Wheel for our walk through.  The maintenance people were still making repairs on the unit. They had to replace a stabilizing jack, propane valve, hang the bathroom door and install the window valance.  There biggest issue was trying to get the water system to work. The water system only worked on the 12 volt pump.  This 5th Wheel was not prepared for delivery. This unit wasn’t even close to being ready.

Giant RV had our backs to the wall, we had to leave and this unit was our only place we could stay.  Getting close to closing time. I talk to the service manager and said we have to go.  I told him, you supply me with the parts and I’ll fix what is left.  We had no choice.  He agreed.  Off we went with an unusable 5th Wheel.  The next day, we woke up to a lake under the 5th Wheel.  Water everywhere.  I stopped the leak and got the water system to work with parts supplied by Giant RV.  But it didn’t stop there, this unit turned out to be another Lemon.   When I checked over the 5th Wheel, tires were under inflated lug nuts loose and that was just the start.  Over the next few months, we experienced breakage and repair issues.  We used the 5th Wheel very little but that didn’t make a difference, things just kept on breaking.  One of the high lights was when the sewer system leaked and the sewer gases entered into the cabin.  This started from the very beginning when we started using the 5th Wheel. What else could happen, it did.  We tried to load our OHV into the garage.  It didn’t fit.  The best measurement I could get was 11 feet 6 inches.  But that is not a true measurement.  This 5th Wheel is equipped with a “Ramp Door Patio” and  “Three Seasons Wall Patio Door” in the back of the garage.   The only available space for an OHV in the garage is only 11 feet. Now we have an unlivable and unusable 5th Wheel.  I talked to Mike at Giant RV and told him how unhappy I am with the condition of this 5th Wheel.  I want our money back.  Mike said, “we don’t buy back units”. I did agree to return the 5th Wheel back to Giant RV for the numerous repairs that needed to be done.  While at Giant RV.  I talked to Mike about the length of the garage.  It was shorter than what we agreed too.  Mike and Matt measured the garage.  Yes, it was 11 feet 6 inches to the very back ramp.  From the Seasons Door, it measured 11 feet.  His answer was that the 5th Wheel’s brochure states: “specifications are subject to change.”

The 5th Wheel brochure Giant RV gave me, pictured the model we bought with a 12 foot garage and in the specifications stated, a 12 foot garage: In the fine print, in part states: Product information and specifications apply to coaches beginning with serial number 248706.  Our unusable 5th Wheel exceeded that serial number.  Brochures printed by the 5th Wheel manufacture before and after we bought our 5th Wheel had the 12 foot garage pictured and 12 foot garage in their specifications.

Giant RV representatives told us that this 5th Wheel had a 12 foot garage.  Nothing was mentioned about any variation in the length of the garage.  From the beginning, this 5th Wheel was misrepresented by the management, sales staff and service department.  This unit turned out to be unusable, unlivable and was not what Giant RV told us

Page 2

This is how Giant RV was going to make it right.  Giant RV will take our unusable 5th Wheel in trade, for another New 5th Wheel. We picked out another New 5th Wheel.  The cost for the New 5th Wheel is $42,000.00.

Now, I’ll show you Giant RV true colors.  Here’s how the numbers sum up from the beginning.  These figures are for DOWN PAYMENTS and cost of the New 5th Wheel.  The last two line items, one is the cost of the New 5th Wheel and the last line itemis the total of all the down payments and the cost of the New 5th Wheel. These figures are NOT all of out of pocket expenses.

Down payments for the Motor Home

            Trailer trade value                                                $12,000.00

            Cash down payment                                             $ 6,000.00

Down payments for the Unusable 5th Wheel

            Trade in the Motor Home

            Cash down payment                                             $15,000.00

Giant RV’s NEW Deal on a NEW 5th Wheel,

            Trade in unusable 5th Wheel

Down payment for the NEW 5th Wheel                               $33,000.00

Cost of the NEW 5th Wheel                                                $42,000.00

                                                                                    _____________

Total cash for the New 5th Wheel                                     $108,000.00

That’s right, we would have paid $108,000.00 for a $42,000.00 5th Wheel. Mike told me that “we our in the business of making a profit”.  I guess, even when Giant RV sells you an unlivable, unusable and misrepresented product, the customer is going to pay.  Shame on you Mike, shame on you Matt, shame on you Gill and shame on you Giant RV of Montclair, Ca

First, thank you Robert for your rebuttal

I am not a polished writer, so I apologize for all of the confusion. I’ll try to kept it short and explain each point you brought up.

This is a public web site.  I am dealing with Giant RV.  I am also informing the public including seniors and veterans, who are the most vulnerable, do your homework.

Example, an identical 5th Wheel Giant RV is trying to sell us, is $5,000.00 less at another dealership.

I don’t want your sympathy.  You’re missing the point.  When is comes to profit and money, Giant RV has no scruples.  This is not a customers orientated business.

We have been trying for 2 years to buy a new usable, livable and safe RV in New working order from Giant RV.  We have bought 4 RV’s from Giant RV.  The first two RV’s, had no issues.  The last two RV’s, are the one’s we are having major issues with.  This has been going on for the last 2 years.  For the past 2 years and 2 unusable, unlivable, unsafe RV’s, we are out of pocket approximately $65,000.00.  Giant RV will take back the unusable 5th Wheel, plus give Giant RV $33,000.00 cash.  Then Giant RV will sell us another 5th Wheel for $41,000.00 ++.  Robert I’ll let you add up the numbers.

My OHV measures exactly 11 feet, 6 and 3/8 inches.  Prior to the sale of the 5th Wheel, we were very adamant to our salesman that the garage had to be 12 feet long.  Our salesman said it had a 12 foot garage.  We had 3 sales representatives from Giant RV say that the garage was 12 feet long.  Two of the three salesmen told us that they physically measured the 5th Wheel’s garage.  At that time, we had some trust in Giant RV.  Don’t forget, I had given them my credit card information, my bank information and all my credit reports.  So, we did trust them.

When I returned the 5th Wheel to Giant RV for repairs, I asked Mike and Matt of Giant RV, to measure the 5th Wheel ‘s garage.  And both came up with 11 feet, 6 inches (no room for our OHV).  That measurement was from the back ramp, in the up position, to the sliding glass door.  The garage is not 12 feet long.

As for the brochure you mentioned.  The brochure was from Giant RV.  It pictured the model of the 5th Wheel we bought.  It not only pictured the interior and the exterior, it pictured floor plans with all of the dimensions.  There were no options for the garage length in the model we bought.  It only comes with a 12 foot garage.

You asked who was at fault?  I called the manufacture of the 5th Wheel we bought, and talked to product support and the General Manager.  I told them about the short 11 foot, 6 inch garage.  He said, “take it back to the dealer”.

Robert, I hope this clears up any confusion.

I feel that giant RV Does not care about their customers. I feel that they do not give a crap about the importance of predelivery inspections  If they cared about predelivery inspection you personally would not be having the troubles that you're having right now. It is their responsibility to make sure that that coach is Completely ready to be placed on the lot for sale.

RV manufactures pay Dealerships to do a complete and thorough predelivery inspection before they place the RV on the lot for sale. They do this so consumers such as yourself do not get a bucket full of surprises after buying a so-called new RV. I bet you they cannot produce the predelivery inspection documenyour for you. Many RV dealerships elect to not do per- delivery inspections on New motor homes Even though they get paid by the manufacture to do it.

Many of them just wait into you bring the coach back to the dealership for the shitload of repairs that are going to be needed and GET PAID TO FIX THE LARGE LIST of repairs.. This way they get paid twice to work on the same RV.

Here is a message for the person that posted this report.

If you post a request I will post so much more about the RV industry for you... personally, I feel you have a GREAT LAW SUIT because they never helped you get the feel of buying a new RV. And let me tell you, I could pick their document TRAIL APART LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE.

I could be their worst nightmare in a court of law in front of a jury. I helped a law firm a few years ago prove that La Mesa RV Sold a wrecked motorhome as a brand-new motor home. I could personally post the URL That would bring you to the case that I worked on. The RV had 27 pages worth of repairs that needed to be done to a so-called brand-new motor home.

The RV industry can be 10 times worse then new car dealerships. If I got a hold of their documents like I said I could be there worst nightmare. You would be very smart to invest in a law firm and go after them in a court of law The lemon law does apply to the RV industry.. Why don't you call your lender And ask them to send you copies of all of the documents that they have in their file regarding your loan. If you hired a lawyer having these documents Could help you acquire a great cause of action..

I am willing to bet that your RV has a lot more problems than you think.. Now if you post a request I will personally Go into great detail about the RV industry...

What the heck.  For someone trying to "simplify" figures you have perhaps gone about it in the most confusing way you could, and as near as I can see still wrong.  One would have hoped that in 70 years you would have obtained a bit more common sense, or at least could explain your situation a bit better.

You are not at this dealer trying to buy a $500 car to be able to get to your weekly doctor's appointment.  You are buying a $73,000 RV to take vacations in.  So if the whole Veteran on Social Security is trying to bring in sympathy because you can't afford it..well that has just flown out the window.

The ONLY way to get to $108,000 is to add all of your numbers together, which if you really want to count the total cost of something by adding in all of the downpayments from the beginning of time you could have them charge you just about anything.

Let me give you an example...

Say 20 years ago I put down $2,000 on car.  I keep trading it in every 4 years to where I have now a grand total of $10,000 in down payments.   Now, I am looking at a $32,000 car and put down another $2,000.  Based on your logic the dealer is now charging me $44,000 cash for that $32,000 car.

Do you get the point?

Now, whether or not they "Ripped" you off is hard to say..mainly because your report is so confusing.  But there are a few other things very obvious.

First if you knew you needed an exact size for your OHV, why didn't YOU measure it before you bought it?  In fact you don't even know the size of your OHV because you said that the "best" measurement you got was 11 feet 6 inches..at least I THINK that is what you were saying.  Well what if your OHV was 12 feet 1 inch?  Who is at fault then?  Because even if it was 12 feet..your OHV is 1 inch too big.

I would also love to know how you know that the brochure had a 12 foot garage PICTURED...and how exactly you can tell the difference in a 12 foot picture and a 11 1/2 foot picuture.

Clarify Figures

Clarify page 3 of my report:

Giant RV's NEW Deal on a New 5th Wheel

      Trade in unusable 5th Wheel

Down payment for the New 5th Wheel   $33,000.00

Giant RV only gave me only $42,000.00 for our unusable 5th Wheel.  That left $33,000.00 due on the loan.  Contracting split that amount on the trade in and on the new contract.  I tried to simplify it by just making it one figure.  So, the $33,000.00 didn't go for paying any part of the New 5th Wheel, just the loan on the unusable 5th Wheel.  The $108,000.00 for the New 5th Wheel is still the right figure.
