I was called the other day by someone claiming that I had been given a grant from the Federal government. I was surprised, but I had applied for a grant 2 years ago, so I thought it just might take that long. I had also just graduated college in 2004.

He said it was for my betterment, and that I was a tax payer, and blah, blah. He said I was granted 12,500. I was blown away. As I read other stories later on RipoffReport.com, I realized mine sounded similar, but these people seemed to be getting better at scams.

They added that there was a 49.95 processing fee, but it would not actually come out of my pocket because I would be Fed-Exed $500 to put into my account for the transfer. I think that is where he got me hooked because it wasn't anything extra for me. He also gave me many details about going to the bank and what I had to do exactly. I was also given a confirmation number.

I of course received nothing and got onto the internet. I read a report similar to mine. He did have an Indian-like accent, with a simple name as Fred Harris. He gave me the address here, and it does exist, but nothing for this type of thing. My husband called someone in the building, and he said he gets a call with someone asking about receiving government money ONCE A WEEK!

Anyway, I decided to put it on here to tell people to look out and report it to the police and government. I have since closed my account and told them to be suspicious of fraudulent activity. I no longer have to worry, but wanted to let people know.

I just thought it was so much that it couldn't be fake!

I also meant to say that they offered me health insurance and gave me the real number to a company it would be from and also offered me long distance service. They had a recording for "verification" and everything. I just thought it was so much that it couldn't be fake! Whatever!
