Carfax is a service that provides any history on the vehicle that has been recorded under the VIN number......i.e., it was flooded out (totaled) in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.....i.e., it has had $10,000 dollars worth of damage done to it and is not worth what they are trying to sell it to you for.......(Gwinnett Place Honda.) An Isuzu dealer might have been able to tell me it had been wrecked but they would not have been able to tell me to what extent.... Carfax will also tell you if there are any discrepancies on things like the title....the mileage.....How many owners the car has had......if it's been up north (meaning it's been exposed to heavy road salt/sand in the winter months)........etc, etc, etc.

Why does everyone think that carfax is The Almighty God of car histories? When I bought a used car (a BMW) from a ford dealership, I took the car to a BMW dealership to have the car checked out. I told the Ford dealership what I was going to do, they had no problem with it. Paid about 125.00. They found several small things wrong but nothing major. I bought the car on their OK of condition. Well worth 125.00. Lots better than a carfax. Who are they anyway?
