I went to my first Haldane meeting recently. I have to admit at first glance it was a great experience. It was all blue sky and 'gee whiz' you are a star. Then I realized, my key questions were not answered, the next steps were about bringing in my wife, and my questions around pricing and timing were completed downplayed...Its a cookie cutter process that is documented all over this web site.

I have to admit, I was surprised to find my 'connected' consultant playing a computer game while I was filling in the survey forms. Expectation wise, I would have expected this guy to be reading email from the deluge of contacts they keep with industry execs and CEOs. They I realized, there was only one PC in the entire office. I guess they share it after hours?...

The entire session was a sales pitch - on a couple of occasions, I was completely cut off talking in mid-sentence. My handler was very keen on driving home their value and getting me to the next step. Its as if they all went to the XEROX photocopier sales training school back in the 70's.

It was very clear the consultant had another prospect lined up behind me. This is a clearly a numbers game. They churn through x number of people per week, x % sign the contract. This is simply a business. Many people are clearly not happy with the results, while a certain percentage are.

I have since discovered other career consultants that have results based fees. 50% up front and 50% to be paid when a job is landed. thanks to this web site, I was able to make a balance judgement call on the decision to NOT move forward with Haldance.

Thanks Badbusinessbureau. I would suggest you charge users a small fee to read more than 3 entries. You need to make some money to keep your service afloat. The value is there. Offer all users access to the search tools and results. After reading 3 stories, ask the user for a $10 paypal payment that lasts XX days. You clearly have value and you need to pay your bills. Your NT server and database are kind of slow in serving up web pages.
