I fell for it.  I signed up under AARP with Hartford Insurance for all my cars, home, and second farm house.  It was a fantastic bargain for someone on retired income.  I saved substantially over $1000 compared to the rip off Allstate and State Farm companies for the same coverage.  That was the bait.  Then I just got my first renewal notice  last week (Feb. 2013)  for my farm.  It nearly doubled!  Beware of the bait!  Do not fall for this like I did.  Shop somewhere else.  Based on the other reviews, I expect the coverage on my primary residence and all my cars to increase even though no claims, no citations, no accidents.  There should be a law or some kind of protection for older citizens who are easy victims just trying to protect their properties they have worked hard for.  I thought that what AARP was supposed to do.

I never understand why people want to always look at the negative and almost going out of their way to try to find a "RipOff" in every situation.

The fact is that you signed up for Insurance for a period of time.  You gave no indication that they failed to provide this insurance for that period.  So there is NO "Bait and Switch", now had you signed up for it and a week later they said "Whoops..we made a mistake you actually owe us xxx more dollars for this coverage"..then you would probably have a valid complaint.  But that is not what happened..you got notice of an increase in your renewal.  Now, just like every other company they have the right to increase premiums(within the insurance regulations of the State).  If you think they violated the law then send a complaint to your States Insurance Commissioner.

Then let us not forget that you saved $1000 over that first year, and regardless of if your rates go up this year with any company..you still saved that $1000.  If you don't like the new rate then do what thousands of other people do every month when their insurance is coming up for renewal...shop around.   Perhaps after you get different rates, call up Hartford again and see if they can match them somehow.
