I responded to a craigslist employment ad entitled: NEW! "Complete Starbucks Store in a Box!" Biz-2-Biz! Base+Comm. Within a couple of minutes of sending my resume I was bombarded with about 6 emails describing the opportunity.  Then was to complete a questionnaire and email it back to Howard. I did just that and received another email asking me to call him.

I called him and he spend about 28 minutes talking...talking....talking....I call it the build up.  It really doesn't matter what he talked about up to that point.  It was all filler material designed to build a sense of excitement.  High earning amounts...the usual.  Then he hit me with the meat of his call.  He said that in order for him to be protected I would have to qualify and sign a "lease" for the equipment (the coffee maker).  What he described in the "banking" portion of his phone call is nothing more than a "straw purchase"...I would qualify for the lease, which in fact would be a loan, probably through a company like American General Finance...which provides high interest loans on equipment like this.  But don't worry he said.  We would pay the monthly payments on the equipment.  Now why would they pay a monthly lease amount on a piece of equipment they already own?   Warning signs galore...Proceed with caution.

Until today, I did not even know about this complaint.

Here's a surprise you don't normally read: I am in agreement with ALMOST everything this person said.

I did go through the sales opportunity by telephone is great detail.  I did send out a number of e-mails explaining the sales opportunity.  I placed zero "pressure" on anyone to join us.  It either fell in line with what the person wanted to do or it didn't.

In order to bring people on as a sales person, we needed each to have some "skin in the game".  Before the recession, we DID provide new salespeople with FREE machines.  Unfortunately, some of them sold the machines for cash and took off with the money.  Because, like before, they responded to a Craigslist ad, we could not provide them with FREE machines again when we had no idea who they were.

Therefore, IF they wanted to work with us, they needed to lease a machine for demonstrations and special events as part of our lead generating programs.

Yes; they are the leasee.  However, WE would make the monthly payments for them.  Around $300 a month.

Some of these sales people DID return their machines and move on.  Some are still selling.  In ALL CASES, we still continue to make the monthly payments as agreed just as promised.

If you have any concern regarding my truthfullness, I am willing to provide you with the names and emails of those people who are having their payments made as agreed as long as I can determine up-front that you are asking for this information for a legitimate reason.
