I was unjustly stopped for passing in a no pass zone, when at least half of my car was within the double lines, when the other half was not. Not only was I not aware of the 'half' car rule, I have seen police, military officials, emergency vehicles, civilians, and bikers make the same procedure for at least three years now! I learn through imitation, and since when is imitating  law abiding citizens (such as the police) actions wrong. If this was a major concern, enough for a police car to be well about 300-400 feet away, and see me and make this a huge deal ($146.00 fine!!!!) then there should be a sign clearly up so that motorist know there are clearly visible no passing double yellow lines. A part from that, everyone should receive the same ticket, including ALL the police, I have seen making this same maneuver. I was so dumbstruck upon being pulled over, I thought I had a light out on my vehicle (about 7:30 am) and when I inquired what I had done wrong the Hinesville police officer was so nasty, rude, and mean that he made me extremely nervous. Being a woman I almost wanted to roll up the window and called the POLICE. I was in such shock over the poor unprofessional treatment, and failure to disclose what I had done wrong that I had a hard time pulling my license out of my wallet. When I did retrieve it, he asked me if I was military and upon saying 'Yes', he told me he was "going to make an example out of me" and walked off. Now I went from scared, confused, to feeling discriminated against to the full degree. I was in such shock (and still am) I went unto Fort Stewart base (where I was proceeding) and was almost afraid to come back off into the civilian sector. This cop was so biased and unsympathetic that it has placed a bad notion of Hinesville Police Department in my mind forever! I am so upset, because I feel as if this was outrageous, unjust, overly extreme, and over the top ($146.00 fine in 2 weeks to pay) behavior; which I do not know what to do about! You want to go to Maj. Hodges and complain at the Hinesville Police Department, but then you think, 'man this GANG of 'harassers' will always be on alert for your vehicle. We need to put a stop to police harassment, brutality, and extreme unjust "make an example out of you" behavior!

Your ticket...

#2General Comment

Was probably the result of your attitude toward the police officer than the illegal maneuver you performed. It may well have been that the cop would have let you off with a warning but if you responded to him as you've responded to the posters here then he decided to give you the ticket. As far as the deal with the military, your first post said the cop asked you if you were in the military and you said your responded yes. Now you want to claim you're just a military spouse. If so, then your response to the cop should have been "No, but my husband is". Good luck in your future life, with the attitude you've shown here you definitely going to need it.

Let me start by saying that I think your fine should have been MUCH higher.  Here's why:

Years ago, I was hit head on by someone who attempted the same maneuver you have described.  It actually killed the other driver and put me in the hospital with sever head trauma for almost a month.  I currently have a steel plate in my skull.  I have problems processing things I hear, and sometimes can't hear a thing from my left side.  This has also caused a slight case of double vision which causes migraines when I try to focus on any one thing.  This happened when I was 17 years old, all because someone decided to pass under a double yellow line.

As far as seeing others do it, who cares.  It is up to you to know and follow the laws, period.  My mother always said:  "monkey see, monkey do, makes a monkey out of you."  I will tell you this, if I'm ever in your area and I see you attempting that maneuver, I will get your license plate number and I will report you to the police.

So, since you changed your opinion on this, we can ASSUME that you attempt to fight the ticket and when you told that judge that you have seen others do it, they laughed at you and told you the same thing you have been told here, right?

Jeanski - this report is a mess!! The OP is a counselor??? Please.  By the spelling and grammar alone I doubt the OP even graduated from HS.  And if she is what she says she is then I suggest she get her money back from whatever school she graduated from.

Your credibility is down the tubes dearie.  First you said you would operate. Now you have certification for counseling? That would imply your PhD is in psychology.  God help us all if any APA accredited program graduated you. I'd be interested in knowing exactly what degree you earned, and the university that awarded it.

At least I have to give you props for owning up to stretching the truth about the other things.

i personally took the time out to go down to the station and review the police tape just to ensure i did not misunderstand anything during this uncomfortable encounter! i retract my review as far as the officer saying he was going to make an example out of me but i honestly thought not assumed that was what he stated! this was an simple misunderstanding in reference to the statement! an i am sorry to the hinesville police department for feeling as if i was being singled out or sterotyped in any way! as previously stated i was crossing over the double lines despite if it was half-way or fully! i was over reacting and being a child as opposed to the licensed and certified professional i am! oh and p.s. if you were not there you do not know what happen unless you are the police as i thought before! smile god loves you and so do i! also come see me anytime if you're hurt or in need of mental health counseling! i also do peer counseling and mentoring, but i'm certified to do empathy counseling as well!

I'll help since I have a P.H.D-

If you're going to lie about your education, the least you can do is abbreviate a doctoral degree properly.  No where in the civilized world is a doctor of philosophy abbreviated as P.H.D..  Normally, it is PhD, Ph.D. or Phil.D.

That swooshing sound you hear is the sound of your credibility going down the toilette.

As luck would have it, I no sooner hit the submit button when my son in law emails back and says there are no female physician assistants with a PhD.  In fact, there are no female employees with a PhD in anything in the ER.  Hmmm.... a little investigating seems to have exposed you as stretching the truth a little.  And considering how hard I worked to get MY PhD, I really find it really annoying.

OK, now this is getting weird. Putting the pieces together, you apparently work in the ER at Winn Army Hospital (military dependent/DOD civilian, works in an ER) AND you do surgery?  Hmmm.... I don't think so. I never heard of a PhD that allows one to perform surgery except a doctorate in physician assistant. I just sent an email to my son in law because, as luck would have it, he just finished his PA training at - guess where? - WINN!!  When I went to his graduation I met his perceptors and faculty, and don't recall any female PhDs.  Oh well. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm not. As soon as he emails back I'll update you.

In any event, tracking you down wouldn't be very difficult, so I think I would quit mouthing off before all this gibberish finds it way to your next performance eval.  You know, employers are starting to use facebook and social media sites to learn more about their employees (or, in Karl's paranoid world, they're "spying" on you!).  I bet the hospital commander would love to hear about you :-)

These are obviously a group of pigs (police/ gang bangers) responding to what they already know to be true. Hinesville, Ludowski, Midway, Pooler, and Jesup GA is some of the most racist, hypocritical, outlandish no man spots on EARTH! Where people (including the police) choose to pick and HARASS (normally ethnic/ military personnel/ out of state drivers) ALL the time! We ALL (wink)are hype to what is really going down in prejudice HINESVILLE GEORGIA so make as many negative responses as possible and continue to prove our discriminatory reports correct! Hinesville Police are unjust, corrupt, and overly aggressive for no reason at all! Grow up and get a life and stop drinking on that hate-er-raid (as the young people call it) called racism, discrimination, bias(ness), and all around confederate flag, JIM CROW hate! It's 2012 wake up and take your blinders off, or either change your evil uneventful ways! If you do not have anything intelligent to say or motivational then DO NOT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL (do us all a favor)!

Obviously this gang of pigs are all police (probably the same person) which is choosing to further harass me on this site. I thought the purpose of this site was to inform others so that they could be aware of potential THREATS, RIPOFFS, HARASSMENT, DISCRIMINATION, ETC... I obviously was wrong because it allows the same animals you are reporting to continuously harass you. Go find a hobby (I suggest continual education courses) and maybe you wouldn't have so much free time on your hands to eat donuts, harass people, and hold up a radar for a living. Do not be upset because someone is calling out your prejudice behind police station, and instead take some helpful insight and built upon it! If the report was EVER INITIALLY read thoroughly one could easily conclude that I was NEVER asking for any special treatment, only simply stating my GOD given emotions as a woman who was horrified by a BLOWN OUT OF PORTION situation. (Last time I checked I had a right to feel a certain way, and express my opinion and freedom of speech without being verbally attacked!) I have NO problem, and never did admitting I crossed half-way over some faded behind double yellow lines. However, the issue is BIGGER than that little brains! This is a discrimination issue, which you probably live in a picture perfect white picket fence world, and have NEVER tasted what it feels like to be stereotyped or discriminated against! SO once again get a new hobby as opposed to laying up on the internet harassing citizens that know this world is filled with people who are inherently evil such as yourself. Despite it all, if you EVER step in MY ER, despite RACE, GENDER, AGE, OR YOUR PROFESSION, I will still do my honorable duty and cut  you open and operate with a SMILE! GOD BLESS ALL MY HATERS AND KEEP THEM SAFE!

If you would have read the review carefully---- you would have saw that I NEVER once stated that I was ABOVE the law and should not have gotten a ticket! Never once did I EVER state that I needed any special treatment; so before you show your low I.Q. level and just how biased you truly are (probably a HINESVILLE/GANGSTER/POLICE) try reading, comprehending, analyzing, then responding intellectually.

With this huge of a persecution complex you seem to have I suggest you immediately go to your Base Hospital and request to talk to a psychiatrist.  Until you do it is probably best to not re-enter the "Civilian Sector", well at least not without a couple of tanks behind you to protect you from the evil cops.

Oh and Jeanski I don't really think that anyone would think that she represents even a small portion of Military Spouses.  But if they do you made a very good point.

Take some continual education courses before you write/ submit rebuttals because you obviously have a low I.Q.; and do not realize what the word imitation truly means and applies to idiot! I'll help since I have a P.H.D- pick up a Psych 101 book and start reading the basics then make reviews/ rebuttals! ALSO COPS (probably all in Hinesville go to some additional empathy/ customer service classes, and stop responding to this!)
Imitation is an advanced behavior whereby an individual observes and replicates another's. The word can be applied in many contexts, ranging from animal training to international politics. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I am a law abiding citizen that was informed by another POLICE that this was unjust especially when COPS pick and choose who receives a ticket and who does not! Come to Hinesville and collect some more tickets since you're all 'buddy buddy' with the judicial traffic court!

I am shocked at how ignorant you are! Obviously I have NEVER been in any type of trouble before, and I had a perfect driving record prior to this discriminatory incident! As a woman when you are approached by a gang member (policeman) that is harsh, biased, and has a negative demeanor of course one is going to get nervous! I had no idea my car was not fully within the lines, and YES they ARE faded as the day is BLUE!!!!! Apart from that, we all have been making the same maneuver for years, and I was told by another cop after going down to the station to file a report that THEY JUST STARTED CRACKING DOWN ON PEOPLE FOR THIS AFTER 'X' AMOUNT OF YEARS! Also the officer had NO right to say he was going to 'make an example out of me'!If you had any education you would know that from day one as a child we all learn through imitation, and it is not monkey see (racist idiot) monkey do. It was a simple mistake that should have been answered with a warning response, not 'let me make an example out of you'! You are probably one of those RODNEY KING attacker type policeman!

If the report was read correctly... I am not in the military (just a spouse/ DOD worker) and thus was not asking for any special treatment! The unjustified biased official asked me if I was in the military and told ME he was going to make an EXAMPLE out of me up and out of the blue! Actually take the TIME to read a report before posting a dumb response. This area (Hinesville, GA) is commonly known for being an area where the police survived off of military tickets! I was making the same maneuver as everyone else (WHICH I STILL SEE PEOPLE DO) and I received a ticket because I was singled out. If you have NEVER experienced discrimination, racism, bias(ness), or stereotypes you need not ever reply to another intelligent review!
Just for this reviewer I sat at the store adjusted to this "no passing zone" for about five minutes and watched at least six cars make the same maneuver I made, with 2 police cars at the same bank, and NOT one of them moved a muscle to stop ANY of the cars (which all had GA tags, I believe)! NOW as I wrote before, if one person gets a ticket then EVERYONE should!!!! You see I actually get my facts straight before making posts! An no I was not making any unsafe maneuver because my car was at least halfway within the white single line, and there was ABSOLUTELY no one coming from the opposite direction!

I wonder in what way the OP thinks we are all biased?

The fact is that you are not allowed to cross a double-yellow line.  Your contention is that because there wasn't a sign you shouldn't have gotten a ticket.  Is there a sign at a Stoplight that says Green=Go, Red=Stop?  Of course not.  So how do you know that Red means stop?  The answer is of course when you took Drivers Ed you learned that.  Just like you should have learned about crossing a double yellow line.  Perhaps your real RipOff report should be on your Drivers Ed course for not giving you a sufficient education.

"  I learn through imitation, and since when is imitating  law abiding citizens (such as the police) actions wrong. "

This is the best you can do?   To paraphrase my mother: If you saw law abiding citizens jumping off a cliff, would you jump off a cliff?    To answer your question simply, it is not wrong to imitate law abiding citizens, but that's not who you were imitating, was it?

Every day I encounter people who do not know the rules for a 4-way stop.   I'd wager that 75% - 80% of the people do not know when to stop and when to go.   I strongly suspect that they (like you) have been content imitating others that don't know the rules, rather than actually learning the rules of the road.

Chimps learn through imitation.   Humans learn complex tasks through education.  I strongly suggest the latter.

You broke the law, you have to pay.

#25Consumer Comment

Sun, May 06, 2012

I have to agree with everyone else - you broke the law, you have to pay the price. There is no "police harassment, brutality, and extreme unjust 'make an example out of you' behavior" when the police DO THEIR JOB. You admitted to crossing a double yellow line and passing in a no passing zone, rules which, as others have pointed out, are CLEARLY EXPLAINED in the handbook you received when learning to drive. Further, the test you took for your license contained an agreement for you to abide by the rules of the road. It is YOUR responsibility to learn, know and obey them. If you do not, and get caught, whining "it's unjust!" does not mitigate your having broken the law.

I'm sure the ticket disclosed what your offense was, whether the officer did or not. Further, you have, I'm sure, the option to plead "not guilty" and request at least a hearing regarding this.  I would not recommend you do so, though, unless you have clear evidence that you did not commit the offense (as this is a prima facie case and the officer's word will carry more weight then your, "did not!" defense would).

The police officer MAY (or may not) have been rude and nasty. If so, this was unfortunate, but not illegal, nor was it harassment or unjust treatment. "Making an example out of you" seems to have referred to not giving you a break on the ticket, which he is not required to do. If you don't like having interactions with the local PD, don't invite them. In other words, obey the rules of the road, and you will have no reason to fear the police.

"I learn through imitation"

You should learn through training and experience. (Not monkey see-monkey do)

"there should be a sign clearly up so that motorist know there are clearly visible no passing double yellow lines"

The double yellow lines are the clear indicator. Were they faded? Is yellow bright enough for you?

"I was in such shock (and still am)"

If you are (still) in shock then maybe you aren't emotionally stable enough to operate a motor vehicle.

The double yellow lines are strategically placed to ensure highway safety. You do not have the right to second guess the highway planners by unlawfully crossing those lines.

#28General Comment

Sun, May 06, 2012

I'm sorry to sound harsh, but you obviously broke the law by passing in a no passing zone. There is a reason its called a NO PASSING ZONE. If other people do it, its not that they are exempt from tickets, just that they don't get caught. Not only is it dangerous to pass in one if these zones it is illegal which you have found out. Also, you being in the military does make an example as you should be following the law to evry degree. Therefore, I do believe your complaint to be null and void. I have to go with the officer on this one.
