You sound like a former english teacher that got fired for attempted molestation and now has nothing better to do!
No need for an essay here, just see ripoffreport #712532 to see my evaluation for Steve.

"Mr. Rik" is the delusional one here. He/she busts others in this thread for 2nd grade grammar and education, but he himself cannot use proper grammar and spelling, etc. himself. Just until recently he was using the word "shiller"! What the hell is a "shiller"? Look at this nonsense:
>>Here is some more of his jibberish:
"Sounds to me like the bank didnt want to do squat to help their customer at all. typical".
Hey genius. "cant" is "can't" and "didnt" is "didn't" and "typical" being the first word after a period would be capitalized. Then there is the "threw you such a beatin" thing. This is juvenile, "wanna be gangster" crap. No educated adult would speak like that. And, you are not tough enough to beat anyone. I wouldn't even waste my energy on you if you came to my house. Bang. Done. Just love Florida law!
"What if I came to your house and threw you such a beatin that you couldnt work for awhile? And then your house got foreclosed? Who would be crying now"?
"I notice "Jim" likes to bash the used car dealers but loves to shill for the banks. He should realize the only difference is the haircut and tie".
Robert was right on target except for the relationship. "Mr Rik" most likely related to "Charles"- Alabama!
Maxx Power is busting on others too, but he himself cannot spell or use proper capitalization either. Proper names and places are always capitalized you jerk off.

Troll? No, just sport. Messing with idiots is a great source of entertainment for me.

It's not really a rip-off if the OP entered into the agreement and all parties except the OP is complying with the terms and conditions. The unfortunate part is that no one can force someone like the OP to read the terms and conditions of the agreement between the recipient and the institution loaning the money. If there is anything we can take away from events like this is:
1. Institutions like this can't exist if no one borrows money from them.
2. People would be far better off if they really READ the agreements they sign before entering the contracts they enter into.
If more people were educated about firms like this, then they don't lose money like this.
Without reading the T&C's on this loan, I would have expected you to pay at least 3X the loan's principal before it's paid off completely. $17K gets you off sorta cheap.... Not ideal, but better than the $22,500 or more you might REALLY be liable for.

You lied.

1. HFC = Household Finance Corporation, a part of the HSBC group. In the U.S. (which, for the geographically challanged is where the OP resides and has the loan) HFC is NOT a bank. It is a sub-prime lender. Further HSBC Group is shutting them down, as well as shutting down Beneficial Finance.
2. The OP and the subject loan are in the United States, not the United Kingdom, thus the HFC referred to in this report is the U.S. Household Finance Corporation which IS NOT A BANK. Look at a map sometime. The U.K. is on the other side of that large blue patch, commonly known as the Atlantic Ocean.
3. Say hello to your cousin the next time you see him.
4. Idiot.

The op certainly didnt have this "planned out" as you may infer. He said he received the offer in the mail and responded to it. Sounds like the bank "set him up"
Then you may notice he "got a divorce and became single income". Hardly a ripoff attempt. "I called HFC and tried to work out a lower payment"- Hmm doesnt sound like he was trying to "rip the bank off" here either.
Sounds to me like the bank didnt want to do squat to help their customer at all. typical.
What if I came to your house and threw you such a beatin that you couldnt work for awhile? And then your house got foreclosed? Who would be crying now?
I notice "Jim" likes to bash the used car dealers but loves to shill for the banks. He should realize the only difference is the haircut and tie.

Harsh but right. The OP tried to rip off the loan company and then screamed rip off when they took their money back.

Where do you people get this idea that you are entitled to some sort of special treatment when you don't make the payments YOU argreed to? When they come after you because YOU TOLD THEM TO by not making your payments, then its time to stomp your feet, cry and whine and they are so, so terrible because YOU won't make your payments. Then you loosers come here and seek sympathy.
Typical looser, welfare type mentality!
