Home Depot or an independent store matters not. They are both authorized sellers of Hunter Douglas products and bottom line Hunter Douglas doesn't stand behind their limited lifetime warranty. I actually spoke to someone today who argued with me that even though it says they cover internal mechanisms for the lifetime of the shade for the original owner that they have to way to determine if it was a manufacturing issue or wear and tear. After 10 years they just claim wear and tear to get out of performing the repair. Never again will I purchase their product.

I also have a similar problem with Hunter Douglas. They won't send me a copy of the lifetime warranty in effect 2006.
I was told by a HD repair person that the problems are the "strings" and should be covered HD say they aren't covered. I've had many problems over the yrs. They never fixed the problems properly.
As far as the rebuttel from the "smaller speciality store"...Consumers go to Home Depot because they do give support at better prices and are authorized dealers just the same as the smaller (more expensive) speciality stores, also these smaller speciality stores are independent and may have different customer service etiquette then others.

Home Depot, through their "Custom Brands Group" is the company that sold and installed the blinds. Hunter Douglas did not. You chose to purchase high quality blinds from Home Depot, who has a notorious reputation for poor-average customer service, yet you rant about Hunter Douglas as though they are the villain. Why didn't you ask a customer service rep from Hunter Douglas for a referral to a repair center or Gallery Dealer?
Not sure why you didn't purchase your Hunter Douglas Shades from a "Gallery Dealer", as they specialize in window fashions and I'm sure any Gallery Dealer would have fixed your shades, if there was a legitimate warranty claim. UV damage is not covered for fabric or wood materials. There is no manufacturer of window fashions that offers a warranty against sun damage.
I know what I'm talking about because I am a Hunter Douglas Gallery Dealer and I repair Hunter Douglas shades. Some are over 20 years old! Most times, I am not the original seller, yet most times, Hunter Douglas will agree to a repair.
Bottom line is, you chose to shop at Home Depot for high end window coverings. That was your first mistake. Try supporting smaller stores, like Gallery Dealers and you'll not likely experience the brush off that you're complaining about.
