Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My wife and I have been loyal Hyundai and Genesis customers since 2014 and have three car leases with them.  In all that time and with that many cars, we've only made ONE late payment in July of this year.

Basically, we'd missed the due date because we were focused on a dying family member at the same time.  Along with everything else, we were spending a lot of time going back and forth to the hospital. It was an honest oversight that we corrected immediately by making the payment and even calling, but we soon learned Hyundai wasted no time in reporting this ONE late payment to the credit bureaus, which adversely affected our credit. No warning, no call to ask what's happening or if it was an oversight, not even an email, nothing. We've just spent the last three weeks asking for a "Good Will Deletion" or a "Deletion of Late Out of Good Will" letter to the bureaus so that we can obtain our impending mortgage loan on better grounds.

This ONE report, for whatever reason, really put us in a bad position.  To put it mildly, Hyundai's Customer Service Department and Credit Department have been apathetic, rude, unprofessional and lethargically bureaucratic even though we've explained several times to different representatives that there's a vital timeline we're up against. Nope. Doesn't matter. Instead, they've finally mailed us a letter that states they're doing nothing about it because there is no policy wherein they MUST accommodate such a request.

Until now, I've spoken quite highly of my experience with the cars, but I feel after four years of never missing ONE payment on three cars, to be given this kind of malicious treatment is reprehensible and egregious. My family will never purchase or lease a Hyundai or Genesis ever again, nor will I recommend the cars to anyone I know either personally or professionally.

It's simply good business to make exceptions as a company when the situation merits it, especially if it's something like a dying family member temporarily refocusing a customer's attention during ONE pay cycle.  So, instead of all this being a non-issue, it’s become not only an issue with Hyundai but with all the credit bureaus, our impending mortgage loan and probably other associated effects that we’ve yet to experience, all because they have obvious contempt for customers.  Pathetic, deplorable, pitiful and arrogant.

That's right...when you just can't stand when someone corrects you or when you just cant put together any point-by-point intelligent rebuttal, respond with the "you must work for them" garbage! Am I ever impressed!

Thank you for not answering a single question posed. This is a PUBLIC web site and as such the PUBLIC may post and ask for clarification or details to understand exactly what the "RipOff" is.

I didn't mention or infer a single thing about your finanical situation, in fact since you said you immediatly paid the balance I am figuring you had a sound financial situation.  Does the fact that you are bringing it up mean that your situation isn't that great?

You stated you instantly corrected the situation, but instantly after what? You realizing you missed a payment or them notifying you in some fashion? Then asking exactly how many days you were late is another important piece. Especially if you say you were not 30 days late.

THe other questions were just as valid to get the bigger picture. If you remembered to pay every one of your other bills on-time, then in all honesty that makes one wonder just how you missed what again is probably your second biggest single monthly expense.  If you did miss other payments by more than a month, how you were treated by those companies in comparison to this company again is a very important question.

Hello, Robert -

I never would have expected such an omnipresent response from someone; all knowing, all seeing, you are.   My assumption is that you're on here quite often and probably enjoy commenting. Either way, it doesn't really matter.

What I'm trying to wrap my head around is why your position carries such strong undertones of condescention, bordering on contempt.  I had no idea you  have such personal insight into my life and specifically, my financial situation to even pose presumptuous questions about my "other bills?"  And your sanctimonious use of the word "forgot" as in we "simply forgot" in addition to you asking, "How did you know you needed to 'correct it'?" are not only accusatory but malicious in their intent.

Do you work for Hyundai?  If so, your rebuttal is very much in line with the treatment we received over the last three weeks from multiple departments.  If you don't work for Hyundai, do you relish opportunities to anonymously play prosecutor and judge on the internet?  I truly don't appreciate any of it.  It's not for you to understand why I'm posting nor am I interested in your judgment. And I don't need a lesson on life, reality and how it all works for grown ups.

I've never posted anything like this on any site at anytime until now. My intention is to share my experience with others so that they are aware of what could happen to them; to illuminate others, as it were, to the internal policies of Hyundai Motor Finance and what could adversely affect them. I obviously don't expect this massive, global behemoth to do anything, but figured the least I could do would be warn others.

Now that you've had your say and I've posted my rebuttal, please don't take up your time or mine by beginning an incesant back and forth. I'm sure there are plenty of other things we both must attend to that are much more important.  Thank you.

First off you can't be reported late on your credit until you are at least 30 days late, so you were more than just a few days late and a bit distracted.  If you were not at least 30 days late and have proof of that, you have legal remedies through the Fair Credit Reporting Act(FCRA) that you can get that fixed and perhaps compensation if it was indeed an error and they did refuse to fix it.

However, if you were more than 30 days late...The same justification you are giving them to remove the late payment, is the same justification that shows your story may have a bit more here and you are actually more responsible than you are trying to claim.

A car payment is most peoples 2nd biggest monthly obligation next to their Mortgage/Rent. Where like their Mortgage/Rent it is the same amount and due on the same date every month. So after paying them for 4+ years saying you just "forgot" doesn't really match up regardless of the circumstances.

You said you corrected it immediatley. How did you know you needed to "correct it"? How many days late were you when you made the payment?

Then there is the points you didn't mention. What about your Mortgage? What about your other bills? Did you somehow "remember" every one of those other payments to where you were not more than 30 days late with them? If you were 30+ days late did they report you? Did those other companies remove their negative reporting?

Also, I really don't know why you are writing the Credit Reporting Agencies asking them to delete them as a "Good Will gesture".  They receive their information from the Companies and can't arbitrarily decide what they do and do not report.  In fact if they deleted valid information and the company wanted it reported they could actually be in some serious legal regulatory trouble.  If you really want this deleted you will need to work with Hyundai and hope you can talk them into removing the negative mark eventually.
