I saw their advertisement on my facebook.com feed related to Macy's stores going out of business. The ad said you could get 90% + off of high end skincare products. I saw the illum moisturizer for around $5, so I quickly purchased it. The site had the quantity of stock remaining after every purchase so you can see the numbers counting down, which promotes a sense of urgency for the consumer. After I purchased it, I didn't see a normal transaction screen. There was another product ad for an eye cream around the same price as the moisturizer. I figured that it was only another $5 so go for it. After I quickly selected the purchase button, then I was re-routed to a transaction page where I entered my information for payment. I was pretty stoked after that purchase since I knew of Macy's stores going out of business and liquidating their inventory. I figured this was another one of those instances but online which, I thought, was convenient and great that I was getting a great deal of quality products. Eventually I looked at my bank account and saw the charges for the product. Then I saw a $2.99 shipping fee which wasn't on the screen total when I checked out. It irrtated me a bit, but I figured since it was another small charge I could overlook it. Oddly enough when I got my order confirmation for the 2 products the $5 spent on each product wasn't assigned to the product. It was assigned to shipping which I thought was weird. The order receipts had minimal detail noted. It mostly had my info along with what products I had purchased. Then I got another order confirmation for the $2.99 charge which was "rush-shipping". I didn't elect that in my order either. That was done on March 16th. Today is March 31st and I see a transaction posted in my checking account for $94.77 & another pending for $93.80. I figured it was these illum jerks because of the transaction details. I saw the number noted in the transaction screen and called them. When I called I didn't hear any mention about the illum company or brand. I was just on hold to speak to a customer service rep. I waited about a minute and some unenthusiastic rep picked up and I told her the issue. She told me I signed up for a 14 day trial, which I didn't. I told her exactly that and she argued with me that I did. I challenged her and told her what the advertisement was online. In addition to that, that they didn't even disclose it on their order receipts. She offered to give me 50% off of the subscription and I declined since I never would have knowingly purchased these products if they properly disclosed an automatic subscription. Then I said I wanted a refund and she said she couldn't because I "agreed" to this. She gave me a cancellation number and I hung up. Then I called my bank and told them about this nonsense. I think they're aware of this happening because they mentioned the 14 day trial before I did. I told the rep what happened on my side and they're going to try to get my money back. I'll have to call my bank again after the other transaction posts. Don't buy from this scam of a company. They have sly business practices that are tailored to take advantage of consumers. They don't even properly disclose the services they're signing you up for which should be illegal.
