Instant Check Mate Scam business fleesing for fees Internet
This outfit sucks you in by not revealing upfront what they will charge for their service. When you find out that they will charge $22.00 for a month of service, they don't tell you that they will continue charging each and every month. I thought I'd receive my information and then cancel; the information I wanted was worth $22.96, but no more.
For $22.96 I got address and telephone number and previous addresses and no more. They led me to believe there was more, but would charge for a PDF, about $2.00. After that, they wanted to charge $19.96 more for the information (arrest records,etc.) I already knew the address, but wanted more.
At that point I bailed out. I felt like an utter fool. The $22 plus PDF was all I was willing to lose in this scam. Basically, they were charging lots for what you can get on whitepages for free.
I called the number provided and started to say why I wanted to cancel immediately and the male operator hung up on me. At that point I was immagining I'd be charged $22.96 for the rest of my life. I called again and got a different operator and after supposedly contacting her suppervisor she canceled the account and said there would be no charges, but I'm doubtful. I think I'll keep calling them to ask if they cancelled my account. If they charge me anyway, I'll contact the Kansas Attorney General's consummer affairs and report them. In the meantime, I'll feel really stupid!
