Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

 We ordered our shutters from "The Shutter Compnay" in London.  The business looks like it is a decent size but it is all an illusion.  This is a one-man band who uses a phone answering service to make it seem like he has his own call centre.

The owner is Yusef Elansari and he stole our money.  If you look hard enough you will find plenty of other people on the internet whose money he has also stolen.  Frustratingly we didn't find the negative reviews on our first search so made the mistake of dealing with him.

We placed an order for shutters in mid 2012 and were told to expect delivery in 8 weeks.  We paid a 50% deposit.  The shutters did not arrive and, after much chasing, we were told there was a problem with supplier but that they would arrive in a further 8 weeks.  Again nothing arrived.  We chased and chased again and eventually threatened to take legal action.  At this point Yusef Elansari sent us the letter below dated May 2013 stating that he had run out of money and the business needed to be placed into liquidation...and therefore he would not return our money.

THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN BELIEVABLE BUT IT IS THE EXACT SAME SCAM AS HE HAS PULLED ELSEWHERE.  Others on the internet have been told about supply issues and delays and eventually told he has no money and the business is in liquidation...BUT...check the dates.  The first time I can find him doing this is back in 2010 and he did it to me in 2013.  His business is STILL trading, it has not been put into liquidation and he is still taking orders.  He is just stealing money and hoping people lose interest when the says he is broke.

PLEASE DO NOT USE "THE SHUTTER COMPANY" OR YUSEF ELANSARI.  He will not give you your shutters and will not return your money.

Fortunately we have recovered our money from our credit card insurance.  If you have already been stung then worth trying that approach.

Letter from "The Shutter Company" dated May 2013:

Dear X

The Shutter Company Limited (the “Company”)

We are writing to advise you that, due to unforeseen circumstances and current economic times we have been struggling to operate.

We are a small company and have no funds with which to continue trading after the directors injected some £200,000 from personal funds to keep the business going.  As a result of what has happened, we have consulted an Insolvency Practitioner with regards to the financial position of the company.  After a simple review, the conclusion reached is that the Company is technically insolvent and we have no other option other than to cease trading immediately.

The company does not have enough money or assets to fund the costs of going into formal liquidation and therefore, should creditors see fit, they are at liberty to issue winding-up proceedings, which will not be opposed.

[All we are able to do is put clients in touch with our manufacturer in China and allow them to order their shutters direct from the factory. You can transfer the outstanding sum for the full order directly to them and we will undertake to fit the blinds at no extra cost.}

We sincerely apologise for the loss suffered by all our customers but unfortunately the matter is beyond our control.

Yours faithfully

Yusef Elansari

Director

The Shutter Company Limited
