Jacobsen Homes Interesting and not uncommon Homassass Florida
I read with some interest your report on the problems with your Jacobsen Home. I would also find a wall out of Plum by 1 1/2 inches unacceptable. Having worked in the construction industry all of my life I can tell you this may not be an uncommon issue. There are a lot of bad builders out there and a lot more poor quality manufactured homes. My friend bought a Clayton Home and her story makes your sound like a walk in the park. These Manufactured Home Dealers are stealing in my mind. Their pricing in FL in many cases exceeds what you can get a site built home put up for. However if you are fortunate enough to get a good install and a product assembled correctly you could end up with a nice product with some of the higher quality manufactures like Palm Harbor, Live Oak and maybe even Jacobsen. But it is a big gamble with a lot of your money. So as they say "BUYER BE WARE!" I WAS LUCKY TO STUMBLE ACROSS THIS REVIEW as I was giving Jacobsen a look. I was already fast losing my desire to deal with them due to the very, very poor quality of their cabinets and carpet amoung other things. Particle board and stapled cabinets and non dovetailed drawers are a sure fired disaster waiting to happen. They do however have lots of purfum on the pig as they say. Nice drywall work in the models. Good trim work and the units look real perty.
The biggest problem with these dealrs is they understand the quality and installation issues all to well. That is why they refuse to let you buy their product and only pay in full before the home leaves their site. Try to get one to let you set up an escrow account with full payment only after delivery, setup and a walkthrough inspection. They know hud IS A JOKE! No enforcement, no real standards. The state inspection process is also a joke. Then the local inspection just adds to the mess since by most state laws, all they can inspect is the site setup and utility connections. They do not mind also joing the frey and chargiung you lot of cas for a process that provides you with no protection. They have no juristiction in the home itself because of federal regulations.
