JK Harris And Company Ripoff Took Our Money and Misrepresented Us Charleston South Carolina
In August of 2001, we obtained the services of JK Harris and Company to assist us with resolving a huge tax bill due to Alternative Minimum Tax that was assessed from employee stock options from a previous employer. We met with a tax consultant and qualified for an "Offer and Compromise", paid the amount in full to JK Harris, which was $2500 as we were lead to believe that this would help move things along.
Unfortunately, this was not the case as we continued to receive incorrect data from JK Harris in regards to the (OIC) and continued to send in corrected information, but nothing seemed to get changed. This continued for over 3 months until we finally got a correct OIC to submit to the IRS; however, there was no rhyme or reason to how they came up with the settlement figure and thus it was declined from the IRS. We continued to try and submit a new OIC only to again receive full documents of incorrect information with nothing to support JK Harris' findings. They were also supposed to protect us from having an levy hit our bank accounts and had we not contacted our bank directly to let them know that was in the works we would have had all funds taken from our accounts as JK Harris did not do their job.
We have since been trying to get our taxes resolved from tax year 2000 and even had to contact a more seasoned tax professional to help us as we were looking at bankruptcy. With that said, we recently had our case resolved with the IRS after extensive research and monies paid to another firm. Additionally, we should not have owed the tax that was orignally assessed because of the specifications in how the stock options were listed. Thus, again causing us a great deal of expense and hardship. Not to mention, time wasted and stress.
We have sent several letters to JK Harris requesting a refund and continue to be denied our monies. I am in the process of contacting the BBB and hope that our posting will help others investigate other firms before entering into a contract and being mislead as dealing with the IRS is a serious issue. We also believe that there are many other people out there who have retained their services who might be in a better financial situation if they had used someone more experienced as JK Harris only believes in the OIC and that is not necessarily the best path for everyone depending on their tax issues.
