Unclean conditions at the Knight's Inn Mayberry should warrant a visit from the health department and a stern lecture from Sheriff Taylor.

Originally submitted via Knights Inn web site:

I wish to bring to your attention the condition of your property in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The bathroom of the first room we were given was so bad I requested another room. The toilet tank was cracked, there was mildew and missing tile in the bathtub. The air conditioner face plate was cracked and had missing parts. The remainder was held together by tape.

The second room was a bit better but had problems of its own including a filthy air conditioner, leaky bathtub faucet, tile mildew and lipstick on a bed spread. I would have brought these to the attention of the front desk attendant but when I checked out at 8:45 A.M. there was no one behind the desk. Just a sign that instructed the guest to leave the keys in a drop box.

I photographed a series a pictures showing these and other unsatisfactory conditions. I am eager to send them to a customer relations manager. Aunt Bea would never approve of such living conditions. I would refrain from answering the phone using the phrase: Knights Inn of Mayberry until these abhorrent motel rooms are cleaned up and repaired.

Follow up: I submitted a dispute with American Express for half of the $43.56 I paid for a night in these unsanitary conditions in July of 2003. Finally in a letter dated October 14, 2003 American express denied my request based on a letter from the Knight's Inn General Manager. I seems their policy is no refunds after 30 minutes of check in. American Express did rule in my favor after I appealed their decision on October 30, 2003.

A Motel like this deserves the bad press it gets especially after refusing guests any discount for actually sleeping in these disgusting conditions. If I were Knight's Inn I would pull the franchise agreement until repairs were made and the property was cleaned up.

I hope to post the photos I have on the Rip Off Report web site
