I purchased a leather sofa from the LazyBoy Furniture Gallery in Riverside, CA, in November of 2001. I specifically asked about the quality of the foam and wooden construction and was assured that the arms were sufficiently padded so that the wouldn't be feel underneath and that the frame would last for years.

This is a stock sofa which they still have on the floor in their showrooms. It has "raw" cowhide for the leather and brass decorative rivets on the front of the arms and around the base.

Within months, the padding on the oversized arms had squashed flat and each of the two wooden slats can be felt. The wooden slat in the middle broke at the joint with the frame last week. The unwoven fabric undercovering deteriorated so that I finally turned the sofa over a few months ago and tore it off. The leather is worn to wrinkles in the cushions, but the cushions are one-sided and can't be turned.

I paid $1,395 plus tax and freight for this, and I'm ready to put it on the curb. When I went to the store manager, he basically said tough luck and gave me a card for an upholsterer. I'll never buy another LazyBoy of any kind again.

Why did you wait???

If I spend that kind of money on a nice sofa and the foam padding in the arms breaks down within months then why would you wait until it is 2 and 1/2 years old to report it? Also, the nonwoven material on the underside that you referred to, and is deteriorating, is the dust cover. They last forever unless something gets under there to tear it, usually a pet of some sort. I do not, nor have I ever worked for Lazyboy. I do know furniture. I can sympathize with most complaints on this site but yours makes no sense. No product is bullet proof. A nice sofa requires a certain amount of care. Don't be mad at a company because you bought and paid for quality but perhaps failed to care for it or at the very least, neglected to call them in a timely manner when it was appropriate.
