Lease Finance Group LLC Salesman used deceptive tactics. Chicago Illinois
I too have fallen victim to this scam. A salesman from Merchant Lynx visited me and we spoke about a 2 year contract for a credit card machine. I was a small business but closed the doors in October of 2006. I knew that I had committed to 2 years (or so I thought).... My 2 years was up February 2007. I kept paying for the machine like I had committed to. Then cancelled when my 2 years were up - only to have my account hit again for the $56 monthly fee. When I called Merchant Lynx to get this taken care of - they informed me that charge is from a different company - Lease Finance Group. When I spoke with someone from Lease Finance Group - they informed me that I signed a non-cancellable contract with them for 4 years. They are right - I did sign it. The salesman was speaking to me at all times about a 2 year contract.... I have 2 years written on all my handwritten notes based on atleast 2 separate conversations with this salesman. He filled out the contract and put 48 months. Psychologically - when you are being told 2 years and then someone writes 48 months - it doesn't register that is 4 years. I don't remember the salesman ever mentioning the non-cancellable factor. If he did, I figured 2 years was OK for giving it a try. I would have never agreed to 4 years since I was just starting out and did not know how things were going to go.
I have since frozen my account so they are not able to take any more money from me. I get atleast 7 to 10 calls daily on my home phone. I am not going to pay this as I feel they deliberately misrepresented themselves. Plus, from the looks of all the reports I have read - I have not been the first to fall victim to this scam - and probably won't be the last. I only wished I knew all this before ever agreeing to the 2 years.
